Eeek, this book kind of reeeally annoyed me. It was so frustrating and really unbelievable and I think the main problem was that I didn’t really care about the characters at all. I can certainly see what the author intended on doing with this but I felt it was kind of pointlessly unfocused. I didn’t really get why the two main characters were totally fixated on their rigidity and being annoyingly uncommunicative. Sadly, this book was described as a thriller but I kid you not,
30 pages in I knew what was going to happen and then the rest of the book just felt squeezed and kind of painful...

Rounded up from 2.5. This book would have been much better if the parents were less self absorbed. They just started annoying the crap out of me by the end of the story. It sort of ruined the empathy the book was going for.
Gripping - the pages flew by. Loads of secrets and family drama - kept me wanting to know what happened next. Really enjoyed it.

A recent reading peeve of mine has been the mysterious secret that will change everything but that the main character continues to refer to but reader doesn't get to know. And yes, it happens in this book too. However, somehow Ms. Paris writes in such a way that it feels natural and not a foreshadowing taunt of the reader. Whether it was because there were so many other things taking place or whether it was because it was obvious that there were many secrets being kept by many people, I am not sure, but I was not aggravated waiting. I enjoyed reading of the angst that various characters were dealing with as they moved forward with a 40th birthday party for Livia. Though, honestly, I did not understand her obsession, even with the lingering issue of her parents and her wedding. But it did make for a really good center point for all the twisty plots to twist around.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of the book. This review is my own opinion.

This book was interesting to say the least. Was it the best book by this author? No. But did I fly through it and need to know what was going on? Yes. This book doesn’t have a lot of twists and turns by any means but it does have that i can put it down factor. Which is why it got a high rating from me. I would recommend it if you are looking for something quick and engaging to read.
ok, well, my dilemma is this book was very disappointing after reading behind closed doors I expected more from this book.
Intriguing read, but the family dynamics frustrated me no end.
I found it hard to relate to the foundation of this story — the oddly close friendships, the over the top party that everything hinges on, the decisions people made. Enticing at times to want to uncover the secrets, but ultimately a disappointment compared to Behind Closed Doors.
