The first thing that happens to Chi the kitten is she gets separated from her family and her life changes. But she is endearing and intrepid and finds her way into the home of a small family who (technically) are not allowed to keep her. So Chi begins her life in kitty fashion, eating, sleeping, peeing and playing. Her insights and understanding of the world are utterly feline and childlike, and anyone who has raised a kitten (or a child) will be charmed by her ways. I’m hooked on Chi!
Everyone who loves cats should read this! Chi (and Yohei) are so funny and adorable on every single page. ♥

I first "read" (I use this term loosely because at the time I had utterly no working knowledge of Japanese) [b:チーズスイートホーム 1|2681903|チーズスイートホーム 1|Kanata Konami|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1420715927l/2681903._SX50_.jpg|2707205] in Japanese courtesy of a friend, and didn't read the English translation, [b:Chi's Sweet Home, Volume 1|6845839|Chi's Sweet Home, Volume 1|Kanata Konami|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320560524l/6845839._SX50_.jpg|2707205], until multiple years later, which might have contributed to my opinion on the translation... like I said, I didn't read Japanese, so I don't actually know if the original has this element as well, but the English translation had the eponymous Chi speak in baby-talk, which—while admittedly appropriate for a mischievous young kitten—quickly got on my nerves. I mean, this is a kids' book, and kids probably wouldn't mind, but if the reader doesn't understand that the babbling sort of prattle used around particularly small children or cute animals is actual English, then it might be a bit of a struggle.
