I really enjoyed this take on a retelling of Cinderella's story! It was a clever twist and I enjoyed how the classic characters of that story were used alongside the new characters introduced. Honestly, it took me quite a bit of time getting used to the FMC.
I got pretty annoyed with Sophia's relationship with Erin and how forced it was.
My favorite part was the cotillion scene and how everything came together. Overall, while this wasn't my favorite of Kalynn Bayron's work, I'd still recommend picking it up if interested in retellings and her writing is a favorite of mine!

I'll summarize with a quote from the book: "I'm not a fan of such outrageous works of fiction".

This book wasn't for me. It felt really heavy-handed, there was kind of a rush to the end, and the wrap up wasn't satisfying.
there's a strongly established 200yr precedent of subjugation, oppression, and abuse of women - and all queer people, it seems - and the one sentence or so of "we changed everything immediately and fought and drove out everyone who objected" is supposed to reconcile that? Including for folks who are in active DV situations?  Not only is it disingenuous, the suspension of disbelief is impossible for me.  But maybe that's the actual fairy tale.

It was good and I enjoyed the story but the ending was predictable
