This book was entertaining, I’ll give it that. But I do not, on any level, understand the popularity and hype for it.

Fourth Wing is fine. It’s not amazing, it’s not bad, it’s fine. Like, THIS is sold out everywhere??

The modern speak in a fantastical story really took me out. I don’t care that there is an in-universe explanation for it. It was awful. The FMC is try hard sassy and over dramatic. Fortunately, she is a relatively intelligent character, which I find rare in these types of books.

The entire concept of the plot and world is fascinating. I just wish the romance and high school drama weren’t shoehorned in. The battle and action scenes were great. I really found myself invested in this world.

I genuinely cannot remember the MMC’s name. The romance covered too many popular Booktok tropes for it to feel natural.

I would die for the dragons.

Dear Jesus this was amazing. I haven’t been this hype about a new series since crescent city. Aside from the overuse of “chuffing” the writing was great. I loved watching MC struggle to get good instead of instantly being over powerful. I cheered and laughed and cried and hung onto the edge of my seat for dear life. I already look forward to a reread.

A little too much unnecessary death porn for me. It’s like fantasy squid games dragon fanfic, with teens? I like the dragon rider parts but all the students dying every other page was pretty unnecessary in my opinion.

I just couldn't get into this book, though I tried. The characters, while being aged somewhere in the low 20s (and I thought this was an adult book, not YA), read as young teenagers - both in dialogue and actions. The world did not always make sense - like why let everyone murder each other at the academy? Why use conscription to force people to be dragon riders and not the infantry? Why don't the dragons rule everything, why do they care about humans at all? Why are the tasks at the academy so dangerous the recruits could die at any second, but they haven't given them any training yet? Why is the son of their villain in their army? I don't know. I wish I could have enjoyed it but it's not for me.
