Not as good as I remember from when I was younger and definitely dated, but still entertaining. I think people like their heroines a little more flawed today than they did when Carolyn Keene wrote the Nancy Drew series, but the series still holds a lot of nostalgia for me!

More scary than I remembered it to be. Maybe because we listened to a dramatic reading of it on CD complete with scary music. The gender portrayals were clearly dated and were a good reminder of how much has changed since the book was written, though we still have a long way to go.

Via audiobook (which btw the narrator did a FAB job talking in 1930s speak or whatever it was haha) . I wanted to see if this book held up as well as Harry Potter did. I think it’s still a good story but I’m not a huge fan of books in old settings and OH BOY could you tell this book was written in a different time. Crazy how things have changed so much lol. But the story was cute and I like how she’s a strong independent woman, especially in those days. It was kind of funny how everyone she came into contact with was like “oh we loved him but he promised me money soooooo”
