It was okay - a very quick read. I had read some darker books and just wanted something light & quick to read and this happened to fill the bill.
"Sometimes it's the toughest moments that you learn the most about yourself, and the more you know yourself, the less you are willing to give away."
I have always loved Jennifer Love Hewitt! So I was pretty excited when she wrote a book, even though it has been on my TBR pile FOREVER! But I picked it up last weekend, because I needed something light hearted.
I have mixed feelings when it comes to this book. On one hand, I think that she does have some well thought out and balanced and thought out and I love that she brings to light the dating trials and tribulations. But on the other hand, I felt a lot of it was forced, very emotional, and feels like she is pointing the finger at men and only men for being bad at dating. Hate to break it to you, but both men and women can be bad at dating.
I don't like "dating" books in general because what works best for someone may not work for you or me. I feel like making yourself out to be someone you're not is not going to get you what you want, being true to yourself is going to get you the most realist love you will ever be able to find in this shitty world. There is no "perfect person", but I believe if you are true to yourself and what you want, you will find your "perfect person."
I love Jennifer Love Hewitt and I hope one day she writes a real autobiography.

Okay, so I thought THE DAY I SHOT CUPID would be some sort of Jennifer Love Hewitt memoir, which was the *only* reason I decided to give it a chance. I liked her in Kids Incorporated, and I didn't even hate the I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER franchise --- and, well, the cover is cute, so why not?
But, yeah, it's not a memoir. It's a bunch of random tips on love and breakups from someone who has no reason whatsoever to be writing any type of book -- let alone a book on relationships.
For example, we learn the "steps" to a relationship. Eye contact, texting, talking, sex, defining the relationship status, engagement, blah, blah, blah. Guess I got the order wrong on a few of those. And, her attempts to be clever and funny are painful. Like, the section where she says your body isn't a Seven-Eleven, so watch who goes in and out and wear a raincoat? Whatever. Not to mention the random chapter by the boyfriend-of-the-moment proclaiming that men like big butts. (And the stupid little sections where J Love Hewitt inserts her dumb comments into the dumb chapter about big butts -- just gross).
Save yourself the trouble and just skip this. It wasn't even worth the swipe of the library card, for real.

I picked this up for fun and actually enjoyed it. She was born a week after Valentine's and explains that's why she's a hopeless romantic - even made it sound like she was going to be born on V-day. I was born the day after and while I think the hopeless romantic exists I really haven't seen much romance in this world.
While some people say what she says is common sense - not many people have that. It was a fun and light read, and that may help more people to read it.
She's publically dated a lot of guys and is still single. She is down to earth and someone that most of us can relate to. I don't think many other celebrities could pull it off.
Thanks JLH! May you find that love that we all desire.

lighthearted
fast-paced
Laugh out loud quick read, that's candid and straight forward. If you've ever been in love or some day hope to be, read this book!!!
Quick and easy read. Cute book. I really like JLH though.
This books is cute not the best book I have read but something that's fast to read.
The "chapters" are really little snippets, which makes this the perfect bathroom book. There is nothing earth-shattering in the text, but then I'm not the target audience for this book. My 18-year-old enjoyed it more than I did.
