As a massive fan of the anime, I've always wanted to read the manga... And I finally am!
I have the all-in-one special edition, but was always terrified I was gonna ruin the spine, so I kept it as a collector's edition. But then I got the super gorgeous black editions last Christmas, so I can now read them all!
I am thoroughly enjoying this series already, this collected volume 1 and 2, and I blasted through it. I absolutely love the premise, the characters and how smart it plays out... I cannot wait to continue the series. I'm looking forward to when Misa finally comes into the story! Also, Ryuk and his apples, oh how I do love Ryuk!

I really did enjoy this, but it took me so long to get through it that I just felt I had to take one star off. Otherwise it would’ve been a solid 4 star.

This book though it starts off slow and takes forever to get to the point. When it does start rolling it doesn’t stop from character development to fast paced plot. The main character Light Yagami does start to go overboard with how many people he kills and the NPA and the task force are freaking idiots especially L who couldn’t figure out it was Light when he was killing people like he was fucking God. Overall I thought this was a good start to a series which I hope improves its police’s IQ some more.
