A cute book, with strong 13 Going on 30 vibes. I enjoyed the growth we get to see with our two MC’s. I do gotta say, though, I don’t think Amy Lea has much experience with what working in a school is like at all, based on Char’s and JT’s experiences in their thirties. The most unbelievable aspect of this book (time traveling included) is that the school would be locked and inaccessible for staff after hours. I mean, the whole education system is built upon the unpaid labor of teachers staying long past contract hours. But I digress. Unrealistic school experiences aside, it was a fun and easy read.
While trying to be like the movie “13 going on 30” it didn’t hold a candle. Pun intended!! Giving it two stars because there were a few parts that did have me catching some feels for the main character.

I loved the concept of emulating 13 Going On 30, but the execution fell flat. Further, the miscommunication and the reason for the years of hatred was immature and foolish.

So you woke up 13 years in the future married to your high school enemy… Honestly this happens to more of us than you might think. Maybe not the time travel part.
Woke Up Like This was such a cute and fun read. It helped me get over a big reading slump. I found myself rooting for Char and Renner so early in the book, and I also fell in love with Renner’s charm.
Char was such a relatable character for me as a chronic overachiever, and it was so refreshing to see her start to cut loose as her relationship with Renner started to play out. I loved watching her grow in her relationships with other important figures in her life.
My only gripe about this book is how much pop culture is referenced. It will definitely help to date this book in the future. But maybe it will be like a high school yearbook, just frozen in a very cringy past.
