I enjoyed this a lot more than the first, but I have a weakness for friends-to-lovers, so maybe I’m a little biased. Boatloads of swooning, take all the stars!

Wyatt Rivers is the town Casanova in dusty boots with a thing for his best friend, Sally, who’s just returned to Texas after finishing her vet residency. Sally’s got a dream job lined up in Ithaca, New York, but before she heads out, she wants to have a little fun (read: sexual awakening). Trouble is, she keeps getting stuck in her own head. Solution? Ask her bestie of 20 years to fake date her and teach her how to live in the moment. Totally normal. Absolutely not complicated at all.

Of course, the fake dating gets real fast when Sally realizes Wyatt’s been secretly in love with her too. Cue the friends-to-lovers moment we all came for. The two decide to give dating a shot, all while her cross-country move looms in the background.

Look, I love a good friends-to-lovers story. I’m a sucker for years of quiet pining and slow-burn chemistry that finally erupts into something swoony. But this didn’t quite deliver on that front. We got one sweet memory of childhood friendship (which gave me hope!), but the rest leaned way more into “how many positions can we try before we have an emotional conversation?” territory. The angst and stakes I was hoping for just didn’t land. It wasn’t bad—the spice was solid, and the writing easy to fall into—but it lacked the emotional pull I got from the first book in the series.

That said, I’m still here for this cowboy crew, and I’m eagerly waiting for Sawyer’s story next. Hopefully with more tension and fewer premature declarations of love between orgasms.

5 ⭐️s! Wyatt (both the book & the character) are absolute perfection! Wyatt is a best friends to lovers romance and it has all the feel good love you could ever hope for! After reading Cash & Wyatt back to back, I can safely say Jessica Peterson is a new favorite author!

*There are five spicy scenes in Wyatt. I’ve included the pages & percentage at the bottom of this review.*

Wyatt and Sally have been best friends since they were children. Unbeknownst to the other, they each have crushes on each other. Wyatt doesn’t act on his because he doesn’t want to hold Sally back from her veterinarian dreams. Sally doesn’t act on hers because she doesn’t believe a drop dead gorgeous cowboy could want her.

When Sally asks Wyatt to help let loose and get out of her head, he reluctantly agrees - ultimately he doesn’t want to see her with another man, but he wants her to be happy. The lessons in letting loose turn to a fake date, which turns to a very real make out session. Quickly after, we get confessions of feelings and I LOVED that Jessica doesn’t make us wait for it.

You will swoon alongside this budding relationship. From the nicknames, tattoos, the sacrifices made, and the hot as hell domineering sex 🥵 I couldn’t get enough!

I cannot wait for Sawyer’s story - I honesty can’t resist a single dad romance 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I’ll also just be so happy to be back on Lucky River Ranch with this incredible found family.

These two knuckle heads.. I mean that in the most loving way hahaha Their dynamic was so cute and the friends to lovers was definitely that. Poor Wyatt I gotta say I did not see that going into this from the sneak peek but it was worth it. *me yelling just tell each other already while kicking my feet with these two*

ARC review

Gotta love those Rivers boys! And Jessica Peterson sure makes it dang easy!

Wyatt was the perfect follow-up to Cash. We have childhood besties who along the way, fall in love with each other, but are too scared to share their feelings in case their friendship is ruined. Add in heated looks, fake dating, and secret tattoos and, well, we have one awesome book!

Wyatt is a cowboy with a big smile and an even bigger heart. It’s easy to see why Sally (and all of us) would fall head over boots for him. And how he treats Sally… SWOON!!!!! Speaking of Sally, dang but I love her - she is smart, quick to act, and loves with her whole heart. These two, ugh! So glad fate (and Jessica Peterson) found a way to nudge them into each other’s arms!!!!

WHEW. God damn

This was everything - in both the 🥰 and 🥵 way

“You’re like sunshine, you know? Sounds cheesy, but it’s true. I always feel so much better when you’re around.”

“I’ll be your sunshine anytime, Wyatt.”
