This is an action packed Amish book with enjoyable characters. A great read!

I won this in a First Reads contest! I've given it to my younger sister, Caitlin, to read -- when I saw this book I thought it looked exactly like something I would have loved at her age.

Unfortunately, she found it really difficult to get into, as the storyline just didn't hold her attention. She ended up dropping it for another book I gave her, [b:A Wrinkle in Time|18131|A Wrinkle in Time (Time Series, #1)|Madeleine L'Engle|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1202853583s/18131.jpg|948387], which she loved!

This book was just ok. There were a lot of characters and it was hard to keep track of who was who and what they were doing. I did enjoy the ending though and that was nice.

This series has been very interesting, as it deals with different disabilities and how the characters handle them. However, I find it unbelievable that two people in a small community round both get head injuries causing them to lose their hearing.
I really did not want the two deaf characters to get married. I would have preferred if they showed that deaf people can have a relationship with hearing people. And I hated the epilogue. Why would they go to Hershey Park, of all places!

The story was good, even if I know little of the Amish culture.

Surprisingly I liked this book more than the last in the series. The leading lady, Jolene, is deaf and it is intriguing and exciting to watch her story unfold. I’ve never read a book with a deaf character before, but I can’t imagine how it could be done better. The romances in this book were sweet and I loved the recipe at the end of the book!

This had a good ending and it cleared up some loose ends at the end of the series.

a book review of a cousin challenge
This is the third and last book in the Amish Indiana Cousins Series.
This book I was looking forward too as it had a Deaf main character and I am Deaf myself. Granted the woman in the book lost her hearing after she was in a van accident and I was born Deaf but I will take a deaf character where I can find them. Especially if they are positively portrayed like they are in this book.
Jolene lost her hearing in a Van accident and had went to PA to live with her aunt to learn to sign. She is back in Indiana to teach two deaf children. She also teaches some adults in the community. Lonnie becomes deaf after getting hit in the head with a fence post. Yeah, that was stretching it a little far even for me but I am willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of the story. His girlfriend breaks up with him after he becomes deaf and he thinks he cant be a good husband because he cant hear. Throughout the whole story I kept wanting to push these two together. I know that they had to grow and the author was showing authentic relationships but honestly Jolene and Lonnie was so perfect that each time they did not end up together I just wanted to scream in frustration.
The story throughout the three books really draws you in and you can see how all of the characters grow. I became attached to the characters and was rooting for them. The story drags at times but looking back I can see it was necessary for the characters to go through what they did to complete to growth. This review was originally posted on Adventures in Never Never Land

This was a very good Amish fiction about the frustrations of having hearing loss, overcoming the challenges that come with hearing loss, and the challenge of relationships (family, friends and dating/courting). I love this series and was happy to read the last book in this series and count it for one of my Ultimate PopSugar Reading Challenge prompts. The book was well written and the characters seem to be alive, not fake. They have serious challenges to overcome and do not just pull up their bootstraps and get on with it, they truly struggle with their faith, their thoughts, doubts about themselves, God and others; and how and if they can have a spouse and meet the needs of that other person.

I highly recommend this series, but start with book one [b:A Cousin's Promise|5055957|A Cousin's Promise (Indiana Cousins, #1)|Wanda E. Brunstetter|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1441482973l/5055957._SY75_.jpg|5122572]
