I have read quite a lot of AG novels, but the pacing of this one somehow didn't work for me. Not sure if the reading slump was somehow having an impact. Nevertheless, I did like the usual range of characters (though some were insufferable), Miss Marple for a change taking the reins as a shadow and the eerie setting and motives.
Definitely not my favourite, you could skip it or give it a read once.

Not as good as [b:Murder at the Vicarage|16331|Murder at the Vicarage (Miss Marple, #1)|Agatha Christie|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388386575s/16331.jpg|2589654], but pretty entertaining nonetheless. But I've got to say the actress voicing Mitzi used a pretty awful accent. Sometimes she sounded french, other times it was impossible to tell where the character was supposed to come from.

What do you do when a murder is announced in the local paper? Host a party, of course. Letitia Blacklock has no choice but to host the guests who will no doubt show up at her front door after an advertisement is placed announcing a murder at their home, Little Paddocks. Who would make such a joke? Only it's not a joke! As the clock strikes 6:30 PM, a murder is exactly what occurs. Now it's up to the authorities, along with Jane Marple, to piece together what happened. Another Miss Marple full of family secrets and large inheritances

I do love Miss Marple and how she handles things.
In this case she isn't in her town but she moves around just like it was.
The story revolves around the Post War Britain when people were moving and it wasn't as easy to know who is who. And this is a case of lots of hidden identites.
Miss Blackwood has been a year and so in a new town but she's settled there. Her sister died in Switzerland and she is lonely so she brings with her an old school friend who needs a place to live. There is also a young war widow and a gardner that live with them as two sibblings who are the descendants of a second cousin that need to be there. Some neighbours arrive at their place after an advertisement has been placed announcing a murder. They all asume it's just a fun game but when someone dies things start to spiral.
I loved how things worked out in this one. It is very strongly built.

First off, Tiglath Pileser is a great name for a cat. But I think my mind's not made for this kind of classic English mystery book, where there are fifty characters all living in the same tiny village and they all have the same kind of old-timey British names like "Mrs. Murgatroyd". I couldn't keep track of everyone and their motives at all, which i realize is more a me problem than a Christie problem (this is the first Christie I've ever read).
