Nah, this was terrible. I loved the scifi aspects but this just How Much Can We Torture One Woman, the manga. I hate it. There was no point to all of that.
Her characterization was non-existent, she was completely placid as a character and just accepted whatever happened to her without ever fighting or asserting herself. And did we really need the excess of the sexual assault storyline? I found this utterly distasteful and offensive. Misogynist slop.
The crucifixion stuff was weird, I do not like the christian undertones. The whipping was fucked up. The story doesn't even make sense. All of these people after one woman and she's just continually saved and then tortured by different men who seem to be the actual protagonists. Very poorly thought out, if it was even thought out at all.
Also I wish Junji Ito would chill with the disgusting tongue thing, I have had enough. Don't read this, it's stupid. Weird patriarchal nonsense. I'd give this negative stars if I could. The rich people getting fucked over was kinda fun but other than that, this is worthless.

100% read this while I was taking a break because I was getting really bored studying for an important exam.
Junji Ito doesn't do protagonists. At least, not in the way that a protagonist can enact change or influence a plotline or even have basic autonomy. Remina Oguro is a victim of wildly incomprehensible circumstances, while she herself simply remains the selfless, shy, and beautiful girl she was throughout the story. And, oh my god, her poor father. He just wanted to do something nice for his daughter. I've always heard this manga referred to as "Hellstar Remina," so I'll just call the planet Hellstar. WOAH, BUDDY. HELLSTAR REMINA IS SO INTERESTING AS A CONCEPT. This makes me think of Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke from '73. People are really really desperate to think they have any sort of influence over anything at all. When confronted with the unimaginable and the cosmic, we'll ascribe any meaning to it in an effort to explain the inexplicable, even if it means acting like fucking barbarians. I hope that in the face of incomprehensible horror, I can maintain my dignity and just accept the death I already know is coming.

🧡 Judul: Hellstar Remina
🧡 Author: Ito Junji
🧡 Tebal : 256 halaman
Namun seperti biasa Artwork Mr. Junji Ito sangat lah keren!
3.5🌻 from me:)

Torture porn. It’s Lara Croft constantly falling down and being hurt. Bland characters. Plot and humor are weird.
The art is good when it does spooky weird stuff

What? All of Junji Ito's books are so weird. Very "the end?" vibes from every ending. I didn't hate it, but this wasn't as enjoyable as Uzumaki.
