Manga horror master, Junji Ito, tries his hand at sci-fi in this interplanetary horror. But even more, a horror of mass hysteria (much like Yeon Sang-Ho’s Hellbound). I found the hysteric conclusions of the Japanese people to be pretty unbelievable, but then again hysteria is never logical so you can give it a pass. I thought it was going for a decent metaphor about the madness of crowds and fame at first—but it was mostly just a really well drawn absurdist horror that had trouble saying anything coherent at all. Though it did keep things interesting, as the absurdism wound up and up.
