As neither a manga fan, nor a horror officianado, I've been impressed by how many Junji Ito stories I've really enjoyed. At his best, he's funny, creative, and has a flair for interesting characters. At his worst, is this book.

A completely uninspiring story about a killer planet and the girl who it is named after. None of the characters have a millimeter of depth. None of the plot is original, fun, or surprising. The ending is lazy garbage that suggests Ito had to meet a deadline, and wasn't sure how his mediocre story should finish up.

Some Ito fans seem to really enjoy this book but I found it a one star story brought up to two stars by Ito's art, which is solid here, but, again, not his best by any stretch.

Unless you're an Ito superfan or a lover of cosmic horror, no matter how boring it is, I don't recommend this. This was pretty scary and escalated very quickly. The ending was bleak, just as with all Ito's work, and I love that about it. It lost a star, however, for having yet another passive, useless female protagonist who could have been replaced with a table lamp and nobody would've noticed. This is definitely a pattern in Junji Ito's work. Do better, please.

⭐️ 8.5/10 - If you want a full manga of Junji Ito’s work, this is it. Following the story of a girl names Remina and her father, Ito creates a world in the future inspired by technology that discovers a new planet. Named after Remina, the world learns this new planet means nothing but destruction and doom. It creates a sense of fear and discomfort as you watch the world turn against a girl, nailing her and her father to a cross in attempt to turn the planet away. It’s eye capturing with every panel and hard to put down. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Artwork-nya keren, tapi karakterisasi agak kurang. Buat manga berjudul REMINA, karakter Remina malah sangat lemah dan tidak menonjol sama sekali. Sebagian besar plotnya bercerita tentang pengejaran Remina yang panjang, tapi justru Remina hanya terus dilindungi dan diselamatkan sama beberapa orang. Tidak ada inisiatif untuk melindungi diri.

Malah di sepanjang chapter 5 Remina cuma pingsan doang, dan malah digendong kemana-mana sama pria gelandangan buat lari dari orang-orang yang mau bunuh dia.

Planet Remina juga kurang diceritakan dengan detail. Padahal menurutku bakal keren kalau diceritakan juga asal usulnya atau dikasih lebih banyak peran selain sebagai planet karnivora.
