Mele is a single mother of a toddler, Ellie. Mele has struggled with finding herself after motherhood. Her boyfriend left her shortly after she told him she was pregnant and she has no close family. She works her way through the San Fransisco Mom's scene until she finds a group she becomes close with. She enters into a cookbook writing contest using stories from her friends as inspiration.

I thought this book was hysterical in points. A few parts were slow, but it was a great book to pick me up when I was feeling down

This book seemed like it was about everyone but Mele. The pacing was all over the place, and the upper-middle class moms being all racist and ableist about their kids and other kids was just so off-putting.

So, no

Very funny, not much of a story. 3.5 stars.

Hemmings is one of my favorite current authors. Even when there are things that I don't love about the plot or characters in her stories, I like her writing so much that I can't stop reading. I thought the way that this story was framed as a cookbook competition entry was interesting, and it worked well as a way to get to know the characters. The switches between first and third person threw me a little, but they weren't as distracting as I would've expected. If you don't mind books where the protagonists are flawed and not always likable, I would recommend this book.

Received from Edelweiss in exchange for review.

Found this pretty entertaining, didn’t appreciate some of the attitudes about teenage sex.

Keeping this short & sweet - I really liked this book. It was a quick read.

Actually hated pretty much everyone in this pretty much all the time. I like Rich People Problems novels, but this was just... unbearable. A shame, because I've had it on the to-read list for ages - but I'm thrilled I borrowed it from the library rather than paying for it!
