Gill really is becoming one of my favourite modern poets.

For me, not every poem was a home run, but the ones that hit - they hit deep. I feel like my soul has been dipped into a salty ocean and rung dry, stars and matter trickling put as it’s twisted in the hands of those that didn’t love me enough. Powerful and poignant, Gill captures the joy and pain of life and the collective experiences we share, especially as women in a society that doesn’t always treat us right.

CW: mentions of rape, self-harm, mental health

The poetry book travels through the author's personal journey and experiences in life, of which "the beginning" has to be my ultimate favorite. From innocence to betrayal and pain, then rising up like a phoenix—a metaphor to pick up your own pieces, you can be whole once again, and once more you can hope. This one especially made quite an impression on me; "To love yourself should be no quiet affair, but a loud uprising (A Reminder As We Reach The End). A short one, but pretty impactful. I also learned a beautiful phrase in Punjabi, rab-raakhaa.

This is my first collection from this poet, and it won't be my last. It is a blessing to find poetry that I know I will find something new every time I read the poems. Many of these poems are pinpoint accurate with the emotions/feeling that people can/will experience in their lifetime. I know if I could have read this during those times, it would have helped/made more of an impact on me. With my first time reading I found her section with the mythology mixed in was my favorite part. Upon future re-reads it might be another section, there are about eight in total.
I am looking forward to reading more of Nikita Gill's collections and re-reading this poetry compilation.

My favourite poems were the ones she shared that tied into Greek mythology. I thought she captured the essence of the myths really well. I like the way she writes a lot.

There were sections I adored and sections I didn't necessarily like, but the overall collection spoke to important themes in a beautiful way.
