Loses some steam toward the end, but overall a really solid take/twist on a plague-based apocalypse.

Really enjoyed the concepts and the body horror. Characters weren't great and the writing quality was mixed.
Overall enjoyable.

If you want to read something that kinda falls in the category of: books that are not actively trying to be scary, but end up being one of the most scary things you've read in a while, then that's the perfect book for you. It's about microorganisms (and that englobes virus, bacteria, and cells) who became sencient and capable of intelligent thought. The protagonist, who ends up having inteligent cells injected in his bloodstream, goes throught one of the best depictions of body horror in literacy.
It touches in very deep aspects of physhic and cosmology, specially in places where science and religion collapses the most. With a concise and witty writing, Greg Bear manages to keep you interested throughout the entire book.
The end is one of the craziest things I've read, and within my statement lies a praise but also my only critique: in the end, the author could've given it's readers more explanation in all of the complex processes that takes place, leaving you a bit confused as to what happened. But in general, it was a fantastic and life altering read, specially when you take the time to sink the information in and think about the ending.
