This review will self destruct. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy this book. I did. It had its predictable moments. It had its yell out loud NO! Don’t do it moments. And it had its meh this could have been better. I listened to the audio version, because again narrator stalking. I can’t quite put my finger on my lukewarm feeling for it. It was long and slightly wordy. I didn’t feel invested in the characters. The plot was predictable. Well perhaps I do know why. And not unlike the book itself this review isn’t 5 star worthy either. Blah.

Eve is a dreamer who can’t quite keep her feet on the ground. Ben is an engineer who likes order. When the two first cross paths, it isn’t exactly love at first sight. Follow them as they navigate their twenties told in two points of view and a lot of chaos.

What I Didn’t Like:
-Why do books set in New York have to spend pages upon pages telling me exactly where they are at all times or how the streets are laid out? I’m not going to have to plot out the events on a map or find these people later so let’s skip all that. PLEASE.
-Eve. Not a fan. I like quirky characters. I think it just rubs me the wrong way when quirky characters go out of the way to tell me they’re quirky, maybe. I don’t know. I just didn’t particularly like her.
-Slow start. This book takes a while to kick off.

What I Did Like:
-The title. Which, if I’m being honest, is what drove me to this one. So cute, so snarky.
-Messy romance. I love that idea! My biggest problem with romance stories is how everyone is perfect and everyone is in love from the minute they meet. This book is NOT that. I adored the break from the traditional “rules” of a book in this genre.

Who Should Read This One:
-Readers who want something more realistic than perfectly painted couples who get it all right the first time.

My Rating: 3 Stars. This is cute and I like the attempt at a real relationship.

Eh, some parts were good, some were bad. A so-so novel. Would read more from this author, but this felt a little autobiographical - like she was too close to the characters. Am not sure that she has found the genre she should be writing.

I was lucky to win a copy of this book through Goodreads (so thanks!) This book was a cute read and entertaining. However, it was very clear where it was going to go from the beginning. No surprises or anything that I didn't expect. I enjoyed it but would have liked other twists and turns to keep my interest rather than expecting what was going to happen in each chapter.

I don't think I've ever read a book that so perfectly captures the Millennial 20-something experience. Mind you, I'm still in the early days of this decade. But if this not exactly how I envision life in the coming years, then I don't know what else.

Senior year of college was spot-on. A freaking TRASH party. People that are so, so important to your life for those four years, and everyone else. They're all in the peripheral. And the "Will-they-or-won't-they?" of That Person you've been eying all that time. You can't just make this stuff up!

The part two years out of college also struck such a chord with me. Ben had a fantastic quote about having a bit of money and seeing the city in a whole new way. Yes. The early-20's are a time of going out, puking on the streets, and acting like SUCH a grown-up.

Then you move away for a few years to find yourself, or get a little lost. I can see this happening. I almost want it to happen. And if you come back, I'm sure you'll ask yourself why you're still hanging around those guys.

From my colleagues and others I know in the age group, the mid-to-late 20's are spot-on as well. Suddenly, everyone's getting tied down. Before you know it, everyone's looking for the ONE. Wedding season drags on; every weekend is a repeat of that special time. You're almost 30 in Manhattan — what do you expect with a job and a pulse? What a perfect quote from Glick. Find yourself some friends who go by the names Glick and Danza, let me tell you.

I really, truly, genuinely want the happily ever after for Eve and Ben. It's hard because I see myself as a Natalie more than anyone, but what can she do about the Good Guys who fall for the Eves of the world? There was a time I thought, "What if...?" regarding Eve and a certain real estate agent. But I'm glad the story took the turn it did.

The title of this book definitely makes you brace for impact and expect the worst. When will it self-destruct? WHY? That is the feeling you'll have in 2010, and it's the feeling you SHOULD have. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to understand Eve at all.

What a fun, brilliant story. I ate it up like candy. I'd recount all the best parts, but the protagonists already do that themselves (from the roses to the Star Wars to Pluck U and everything in between). It was lovely.
