This book was cute - it was a good twist on a traditional "love story." It felt like there were more chapters from Eve's perspective than from Ben's perspective, which felt a little lopsided. Also, I thought interweaving 9/11 in the story as well as the interconnectedness of Eve's 9/11 experiencce and Ben's 9/11 experience was important and interesting, but I wanted there to be more.

I love, love, LOVE this book!! I enjoyed it as much as I hoped I would. I loved Eve and Ben’s characters and their dialogue from the very first pages. The perspective shifts were well placed. Their loving, playful banter through every conversation was heartwarming! And the fairy tale ending .... perfection!! ❤️💕💜💖💘

premise:
Eve is graduating from university and is just a little lost in the world. Have a dream job in mind? Work somewhere else until that happens. Just figure it out (even if it causes a major panic).

Ben, also graduating, is a bit calmer in personality. He has a bit more together, but, he's met Eve.
Spoiler
spoiler/personal response:
Eve's an easy character to like. She's really trying to figure it out, but also lazy about, then makes bold decisions to really go at it; this is what adulting is right? Her love life, a mess to say the least. Or rather it's a list of poor decisions. I love how Ben is described as normal because isn't Eve really the new normal. Ben is, dare I say, an adult. Eve, like myself, is a percentage of adult (it varies on daily).
What I loved most about Eve is that she chose to do the things she did. Should she have stayed with the crap guy and work a job she hated, probably not. At the same time, it was still a responsible decision. She supported herself (though I question this, isn't New York very expensive?... but details) and never lost sight of the real goal. Then she chose to go to Colorado. Very bold. Then chose to come back and understand she doesn't like the outdoors; she doesn't force herself to like things that others do.
Ben just kinda figured it out. His issues, if he honestly had any, were minor. He's non-problematic. The whole my father knew your mother before she died was a bit melodramatic and could have survived without. Overall he was good for Eve and she was good for him. They challenged each other, not conflicted.
Also very appreciative that Eve felt guilty and told him straightaways after the kiss with the ex. It took time, but, seems like they were meant to be. They're cute.

Such a fun and cringe worthy read! Definitely captured what millennial dating in NYC is like.

Wow. I picked this up off of a website claiming I would like it if I liked Taylor Swift’s two latest albums. But I gotta be honest, I didn’t think I would like it. And I didn’t. I loved it beyond measure, loved it more than I could ever describe.

I have to explain: I don’t typically like contemporary romance except in weirdly specific circumstances. But this book man.

So incredibly real. I could not put it down, yet reading it was so calming. It was beautiful and relatable and just so damn real I can’t believe it. Wonderful, poetic, beautiful. And yet it made me laugh. It talked about hard topics, too. In a good way. It was exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it. It was synchronicity.

I’ll leave you with what I think is my favourite quote from it, though it was very hard to choose. Possible spoilers, so I’d you haven’t read it yet maybe avoid the quote.

I chose this book by its cover. When I walked into Chapters, it was the first book that caught my eye. While I didn’t find it to be “When Harry Met Sally” like, as the description promised, it was still and interesting little love story that linked two people in an unexpected way.

The more I listened to this audiobook, the more my interest declined. It was completely depleted when this book described any Asian person or anything Asian-related as “exotic,” which, believe it or not, happened several times.

It’s a no from me.

Have you ever read a book and when the conclusion came, you were honestly a peace with it. This love story will self-destruct was so calming and satisfying the whole way through that I for sure thought I would be let down by the departing words. But I was wrong, this book just left me in such a tranquil state of mind that was in awe.

It's exactly as the synopsis describes it to be, which was again oddly satisfying. This is the story of past acquaintances and what ifs. It was remarkably told through Eve and Ben point of view. Each very distinguishable in their own voice and expressions.

The characters are the most genuine and realistic bunch,  and throughout the book, you can see how each member of this odd group of friends grows from college years to marriages and jobs. It was comforting to see these New Yorkers come and go through the storyline. I appreciated that Cohen didn't go for the usual instalove connection with her characters. You see their flaws, their weaknesses so to speak. The attitudes, the diversity of the friendships.

It funny when I think about it. My husband and my path crossed multiple times over the course of our lives before we actually met. Maybe that is why it resonated with me so much. I appreciated every part of this and how Cohen intriguingly manifested a relationship through the entwinement of some pretty pivotal points of their lives.

This is a book that can easily be enjoyed be enjoyed by 16-year-old teen girl worrying about her high school sweetheart and what maybe come of them to a woman of a more mature age looking for a heartwarmingly sweet, witty, lovely love story that has withstood the test of times.
