This was compelling enough to hold my attention and enjoy myself for the most part but despite my lack of Christian knowledge it felt heavy handed in some areas and left me a bit confused on what the actual message/purpose was. The ending had a strange, listless quality to it that I didn't like as well. It felt out of tone with the rest of the book and as if it were tacked on.

I was cringing through some of this too. Nothing to do with the book but I'm experiencing a huge turmoil right now with the state of the world and dystopia for me is about bringing to light truths we don't fully understand. I understand this and it's horrifying to me. No more dystopia for me right now.

"Listen. We know we let you down," said a mother. "But what could we have done, really?"
"Fight," said Rafe. "Did you ever fight?"
"Or did you just do exactly what you wanted?" said Jen. "Always?"

I'm a now-atheist Catholic School survivor and I loved this book.  Mainly because it gets at the capitalism and social order that is ruining our planet, which was perhaps the stuff in the Bible too.

I felt like I was in a violent version of a Wes Anderson movie; not once did I know where this story was going and I loved every second of it.

Disturbing, yet compelling. It would make a fabulous choice for book club with so much to discuss.
