Superheros vs. Zombies. Need I say more?
The writing was a little weak for me. I think it could have done with a bit more thorough editing, as there were a few typos I found that made me have to reread some sentences a few times to understand what was meant. It took me awhile to get into the book. I never really felt any sort of connection with any of the characters. I will say that about half-way through the book I did feel spurred on to finish it to find out how the story ended.

A quick, fun read combining super-heroes and zombies. And yes, super-heroes can become zombies. Had some other interesting twists and turns so it wasn't totally predictable. Quick fun read.
THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL: DC and Marvel Analogue Superheroes with very little changed from their source material, graphic violence against zombies that are overwhelmingly women and children as though this is somehow more shocking than extreme violence enacted against male zombies, an almost all-white cast of good guys, an almost all non-white cast of bad guys, women whose defining character traits are their bodies, boobs and butts that get more description than character actions or personalities, women in refrigerators, "strong" female characters who are "strong" because they are bitchy and physically strong and otherwise apparently flaw free and a characterization of Los Angeles so poor that even a person who has never been to Los Angeles can tell how poor the characterization is.
I enjoyed the pulpy action bits because I like pulpy action novels, but the fun bits were far too frequently interrupted by things that made me make this face: ":I" and occassionally this face "9_9".

Fascinating take on both the superhero and zombie genres. Highly recommended, as it's strong on character development and relevant action, unlike some other zombie gore-fests.
3.5 stars.
Imagine the world has been overrun by zombie, or ex-humans. Imagine that your entire world has been reduced to a former movie studio and you rely on superheros to protect you after the rest of the world has died.
Decent read, some interesting plot twists.

Easily one of the best superhero novels I've read, and a cracking good tale with well-drawn characters, excellent action scenes and nifty twists along the way.

What are you gonna do when the Zombie apocalypse arrives? You'd better hope there are a band of superheroes to defend you. This is a very entertaining genre-mashing concept.
This book gave us a bunch of uniquely interesting hero characters who face opposition both un-dead and living. You might think that the presence of superheroes would diminish the threat of the zombie hordes, but just imagine what would happen if one of those heroes turns. Now you have a super-powered zombie. Not good.
The author delves into some scientific rationale behind zombies and explores how they work - building a rich mythology for this world. The moment when the book explains the origin of the zombies is very cool. The book is sprinkled with fun pop-culture references.
This book is pretty edgy. The violence and gore you expect (it's a zombie book after all) but there is a lot of casual swearing and some crudity. I'm all for flawed edgy heroes but when all the hero characters of the book punctuate their general conversation with profanity, well it got a bit much for me at times, to the extent that it made the characters fell less sympathetic.
Amongst all of this, the protagonist - Saint George - turned out to be a beacon of idealism in a very dark world - but isn't that where idealism is most needed?
Putting superheroes into a serious gritty zombie novel would not have been an easy job to take on, but Peter Clines pulled it off very well.
