boring, should’ve been uploaded in a fanfiction website about superheroes
A fun addition to the zombie genre...complete with superheroes and LA under siege...who could ask for more?! and the first book my nephew lent me to read...super cool!
Meh. Some good ideas. Maybe it would have been better if I had read it rather than listened to it. It felt directionless and rambling at times, and I didn't like the "info dump" monologues interspersed through the story. One? Okay. There were just too many.
Zombies and superheroes. Could it be anymore up my alley? Oh wait, did I mention two super smart female characters whose role isn't solely to act as a love interest to one of the male characters? How could I not love this book? I'm actually surprised it hasn't been made into a movie yet.
After reading a lot of World War Two novels that tug on the heart strings, this isn't the first book I've reviewed that just didn't have the same emotional impact on me as the others. Don't get me wrong, I was upset when certain characters died, but it definitely could have had a more devastating impact.
All in all, if you like superheroes and The Walking Dead, you will love this book.

A graphic novel without pictures, a dystopic zombie super hero yarn... light on nutrients but a fun read.
I love Peter Clines' Threshold series with 14, The Fold, (adjacently) Paradox Bound, Dead Moon, and Terminus. There's an immaturity to the his female characters' inner monologues that comes across loud and clear that it's written by a boy. Being one of his earlier books, Ex-Heroes was no exception but really it was far worse because I think he learned to reign it in as his writing got better. It took me out of the story multiple times as I thought, who the hell would say or think that? For example (Spoiler), when a female hero is fighting a zombie, she describes the clumsy falling like "in high school when boys would try to cop a feel of my nearly non existent breasts." Those moments aside, the story telling with clearly distinct voices from different points of view was great. The (Spoiler) strictly one sided conversation from the demon/possession hero was perfectly executed to take the reader into a whole new POV unlike any other character. I'd be willing to read another in the series as the Superheroes meet Zombies concept was thoroughly entertaining as the tale went on.
