Want a zombie book with all kinds of pop culture references? Then enjoy.
It is just not to my tastes.

Zombies and superheroes. Could it be anymore up my alley? Oh wait, did I mention two super smart female characters whose role isn't solely to act as a love interest to one of the male characters? How could I not love this book? I'm actually surprised it hasn't been made into a movie yet.
After reading a lot of World War Two novels that tug on the heart strings, this isn't the first book I've reviewed that just didn't have the same emotional impact on me as the others. Don't get me wrong, I was upset when certain characters died, but it definitely could have had a more devastating impact.
All in all, if you like superheroes and The Walking Dead, you will love this book.

Other reviewers have stated it better, but I was pretty disappointed with this book. The premise lends itself to such an exciting read, but it ultimately is pretty dull to get through. Clines dishes out every cliche in storytelling for a lot of these heroes that just age this book in a terrible way.

There’s nothing here in this genre mashup that hasn’t already been done (albeit better) in other novels. Someone described Clines as the lovechild of JJ Abrams & Joss Whedon and, to me, that says everything you need to know about this book. Oof

Zombie apocalypse with superheros. It's a decent attempt at this kind of smashup.

Another book that I can't believe I waited so long to read. Cool world-building, interesting characters, and lots of action.

Superheroes + Zombies = Epic Win! The premise of this novel promised an interesting read, and the book definitely delivered. I enjoyed the then and now alternating chapters and thought it was an effective way to tell the back stories of the various characters. I was shocked when I discovered the origin of the zombie outbreak, so didn't see that one coming. I would highly recommend this novel and would welcome a sequel.

Its a very engaging concept having superheroes serve as humanities final line of defense in the wake of the zombie (ex human) apocalypse. The character development is stellar on the superheroes themselves with clever looks back at their origins as well as their relationships with each other and their banter back and forth. There is, however, almost zero character development with any of the normal human survivors. I found myself several times after reading about how so and so in the heat of battle was tragically devoured by zombies thinking "who was that person again?". This book also has a cool and original take on the origin of the virus although the bad guy was very forgettable. Overall this book keeps you engaged from beginning to end with only a few things really lacking. The continually volley between "now" and "then" traversing the present story arch with various back stories works really well overall with the story telling. I can tell this is a very addictive and fun series and look forward to reading more.

How could you not LOVE a book about super heroes trying to save humanity from zombies?
