This is a very sweet story about growing up, learning from others, and giving the world and yourself a chance. Carley is a foster child grappling with the fact that her mother just isn't what a mother should be. Her time spent with the Murhys provides her opportunities for friendship, love, and a plan for her future. It would be a great read for kids as it exposes them to different families, some of the realities of life, and yet it is still hopeful. Lynda Mullay Hunt's first novel is great, and I hope there is more from her on the way.
I cried for the last at least 50 pages, but it was a great book.
i originally had it at 5 stars but i moved it down to four because although i remember it made me cry i can not remember any major details from the book and is not on the same level as my other five star books
This was a very sweet story. I enjoyed the majority of the characters and the simple poignancy of the writing. I think the author tried to stay true to the subject while still appealing to the intended age group. It's sensitive without being too sappy, and realistic through a specific lens.

(3 1/2 stars) I had no idea this was a YA book until I was halfway through. I thought the language seemed kind of more basic, but that would explain it. The story is good and it is a quick read, but it definitely reads as a pre-teen book (as opposed to others like The Fault In Our Stars or the Hunger Games), which I guess is why I rated it a little lower.

A beautiful story about a very lovable character, Carley connors, who finds herself in a temporary placement with a foster family. She really has never been shown typical motherly love and what itâs like to be part of a ânormal familyâ. She finds such a special connection and love at the Murphyâs especially from the mother , Julie Murphy. This book has you rooting so hard for Carley and also feeling all the emotions and hoping the best for her.
Carley doesnât know how to face her emotions and she often uses humor to deal with tough situations. she really reflects the turmoil that foster kids go through and also how hard it is to find and experience love. The loce that the Murphyâs show her especially Julie and Michael eric (the youngest son) is soo touching.
The tough part about this book was how they dealt with the situation that got her into this in the first place and it seemed to be too lax on her mother. I felt that a lot of this wasnât rooted in reality. There were also a few other tough spots with how the foster and social worker system was portrayed that made me take away a star
Overall I really liked this book and the story and the characters were so lovable and heartbreaking at the same time.
