Although I've never read it before it's like slipping into a favorite warm sweater or comfortable pair of slippers. Nostalgia wrapped in a lovely story
Reading this book feels like having a bath. It's relaxing and light and completely transports you away from the real world. What I wouldn't give to live with Ratty on The River and visit Badger in the Wild Wood.
Also, the illustrations in this edition are gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful.

This was a very good children's book. It's charming, funny, and I can see lessons that children can gain from this. Lessons such as: Accountability, forgiveness, the importance of friendship, the dangers of addiction, and more.
As an adult, it's just good to me, but I imagine if I was a child, I would've enjoyed it a lot more.
I would be very surprised if it turned out that Brian Jacques didn't draw a lot of inspiration from this novel. There are more than a few significant similarities. There are many of the same elements in here that exist in his Redwall series.
