A book that pivots from short ruminations on reading in the first chapter, which I thoroughly enjoyed, to more conventional literary criticism in some of the other chapters. There are some wonderful insights in the book about "why we read," but other sections with heavy references to poetry and literary classics were reminiscent of many literature courses I took in college, and thus less engaging.

I think I was hoping this book would be about reading multiple books at one time and this wasn't it. It's a much more introspective "why are we READERS" discussion, which was nice but wasn't holding my attention.

Books Promiscuously Read was an interesting compilation. While the summary sounded fascinating to read, the book its self was a bit dry, with an almost textbook feeling to it. All in all, I'm glad I read it, but will not read it again.

Much more academic than Il expected, but an impassioned defense of promiscuous, unfettered, voracious, and inconvenient reading.

I haven’t read literary criticism in so long, or maybe ever… I loved it!
