This was twisty and interesting, but honestly kinda predictable and full of horrible characters.
3.5 stars — the plot twists in this were jaw-dropping. I haven’t read Jane Eyre since high school, but I remembered enough about it. And honestly if you haven’t read JE, you can still read this, you just won’t recognize any of the Easter eggs!
The first half of this was slow, and I was also ANNOYED at Jane for being like “oh cool I barely know you LET’S GET MARRIED” like c’mon girl.
The shifting POVs of Jane and Bea, and then Eddie at the end were so good — I’m not a huge fan of shifting POVs but I felt like this was done so well and I never felt discombobulated or annoyed with the switch.
The end was wild. I can’t believe this Eddie thought that it would be fine to keep Bea/have her declared legally dead. NO BIG DEAL. And at the end, all I wanna say is FUCK YEAH, JANE! I really liked the Jane/Helen Burns tie in as well.

Don’t have much to say but it was fine! Kept my interest and was certainly an interesting story.
Jane just recently arrived to Birmingham, Alabama where she is a broke dog walker. Taking clients in Thornfield Estates, a wealthy gated community of mansions, Jane finds herself invisible. She’s convinced that no one will pay her any mind. That is until Jane meets Eddie. A rich, handsome man who could offer her the type of life she always yearned for. As things get more serious between Eddie and Jane, and still is reminded of him being recently widowed. Jane worries that she may never be able to measure up to the ambitious beauty who launched a successful brand. Will Jane be able to win Eddie’s heart or will their past catch up to them?

Ehhh, so this book wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. Many parts for me were predictable. Maybe because I was familiar with the Jane Eyre story? Maybe because I’m a psycho? Idk. There were no intense moments or the crazy tension of a thriller I usually would get when reading one. Once I was done I was like…well alright.

I don’t have Jane Eyre to compare it to (at least in recollection), but this was well done. Great alternations between characters, descriptive but not overly so, and great pacing. A few characters could’ve been expanded upon, but given how the author chose to end the book, I can see why not. Fun read.

See?! Another 4 star book. Super readable. Again, sometimes I feel like books are disappointments when I think I have the plot sorted 1/3 or 1/2 of the way through but this one threw me a couple times which I enjoyed a lot. I also kind of love when everyone is sort of unlikable in some way and you still have to root for someone even though everyone is damaged and not necessarily the greatest.
Similar to Jane Eyre, but it didn't need to be. Still enjoyable mystery.
