This was one of the better thrillers I’ve read lately.
Decent modern day Jane Eyre. I like getting the snippets of the wife and her mindset/upbringing, the background pulled in elements from Wide Sargasso Sea as well.
Rollercoaster? Maybe? Kinda? Yeah. In a good way? That’s up to you to decide.
I had high for this book but it fell flat for me a few times. I thought there would be more drama with the husband. I also thought there would be something with the friend that kept giving weird looks to Jane. None of that happened even the end was a little bland.
A loose interpretation of Jane Eyre, set in rural Alabama. It was.... maybe not my cup of tea. I found Jane annoying and whiny and a huge scam artist. She was never believable as the love interest and Eddie was dumb to think she loved him. I saw the twist coming from a million miles away.
Shout of to Hawkins for throwing "whatever souls are made of, Jane and mine are are same" in there. Very jarring to hear that line casually thrown in there.
That being said, it was a rather entertaining read to hear all of the tropes of Southern housewives. That part was well written.
Oh well, on to the next one!

Was compelling enough. The surprise twists were a bit too far-fetched, in my opinion, and not fleshed out quite enough.
