3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
The Night Before centers around sisters Laura and Rosie. Laura is back in town, staying with Rosie, and goes out on a first date with someone she met online. The next morning, Rosie wakes up to find that Laura never came home. While trying to find her, Rosie is also questioning why her sister really came back to their hometown after staying away for so many years after the tragic even involving Laura so many years ago.
Told in alternating perspectives from Laura, the night of her date, and Rosie, the next morning, this book certainly kept me guessing and kept me turning pages long after my normal bed time. I really liked the premise of an online date gone wrong because it felt so realistic and so pertinent in today's dating society (I met my fiancée on Tinder ha!). I loved Laura's point of view because it was like an in-depth character study on perceptions, past events shaping who you are today, and paranoia among other mental health issues.
The final twist was a little far-fetched and out-of-nowhere but I think it would have made more sense if the secondary characters were better developed. Overall, this makes for a good summer thriller read that can be finished in a day at the beach or by the pool.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced reader copy of the The Night Before. This might be the best suspense/thriller I've read so far for 2019. The Night Before is about Laura, a woman who recently experienced a break-up and moved home to be with her sister. Laura is also still suspected by some of murdering her first boyfriend in high school although she was not convicted or charged with the crime. Laura goes on a date with a man she meets online. It turns out he googled her despite changing her name and he knows all about her past and the crime many suspect her of. Laura has been broken since her childhood and often chases the wrong relationships. There are alternating timelines between the present, the hours of Laura's date and her therapy sessions while still living in NYC. This book kept hooked me at the very beginning and I did not want to put it down. There were so many twists and turns that kept you guessing the whole way. Sometimes you can figure out the ending, but this one took me by surprise. This is my first book by Wendy Walker, but it won't be my last. I highly recommend picking this up on May 14th.

A quick read—but still not the best. I don’t think it will be particularly memorable for me. The story is told in alternating chapters between two sisters-Laura and Rosie. Laura is getting ready for a date from an online dating site. She has a bad history with men and has recently had a bad breakup. At first, I found myself intrigued by the premise. I wanted to see what happened to Laura, but by the 50% mark, I was a little annoyed by her countless worrying about her date and things in his story not adding up and about her past. Laura’s chapters seemed to drag on. Now, Rosie’s chapters were good. Things were happening and being discovered. Some things did seem a little far-fetched, though. I did do an eye roll during one part regarding Rosie’s husband, Joe.

The Night Before is one of those great, can’t put it down thrillers that keeps you guessing until the final pages.
Laura has never been lucky in love. After an internet date from which Laura doesn’t return, her sister Rosie will uncover secrets as she searches to find out what happened the night before.
I have bookstagram to thank for my new found love of thrillers! This one didn’t disappoint, it was dark and twisty and had me turning the pages (or tapping the kindle!!) as fast as I could to find out what happened to Laura.
Im still undecided on whether I loved the ending or not though! Still, it’s very worthy of four stars.

This was a 3.5 star read for me. I love thrillers and this one has all the great elements, telling the story from two different characters perpsectives. In this case, it is Laurie and Rosie, two sisters who are different. Laura, the main character, is never lucky in love and seems to always be surrounded by suspicious circumstances starting with the brutal murder of one of her high school love interests.
There are several plot twists that were surprises to me and kept me guessing.
However, I do want to say that I found the audio book a little difficult to follow along with - based on the skipping back and forth between characters and points in time. I think I would have preferred this one as a print book but we were on a road trip and an audio book is a must for me as I get carsick if I read in the car.

This one wasn't for me. The twists were a bit too twisty - that ending was ridiculous, and not in a good way! I really liked the premise and the structure did make for a compelling read, but I just couldn't buy into the plot.
Another excellent novel from Wendy Walker! This is going to be a very biased review because I love this author's previous novels and this one is just as compelling.
Laura goes on a date with someone she met on a dating site, is the next day, she has not returned and that is all I'm sharing about this book! It was an addictive and twisty read. The author does a great job at creating intrigue and maintaining suspense throughout the novel.
The novel is narrated from alternating points of view and perfectly paced. What I love about this author's books is the way she integrates psychology into her stories in a way that is relatable and believable. What can be more interesting than the human psyches.
Overall, I loved it and highly recommend it to readers of thrillers, mysteries, and contemporary fiction.
Thanks to St. Martins' Press and Wendy Walker for the eARC.
