Ahhh I remember why I love this book. Definitely lost a little of the charm for me this time, but that's natural to happen A. with a reread and B. no longer being the target demographic.
Hate the name Gerad. How do I even say that? It's like a weird mix of Jared and Gerald and I know it's pronounced like Jared but then just spell it like Jared cuz I kept going to say Gerald and getting tripped up.
This book was a lot less not-like-other-girls than I remembered or at least I guess expected, and even, dare I say, rather girls-supporting-girls?

I did not find this book super interesting as its very slow and drags on and on. There are a few moments of tension, but they don’t last long and everything goes back to normal right after. This book is basically a combination of the Hunger Games (i.e. love triangle with a big she leaves behind and a new shiny boy she learns to love, Caesar Flickerman character with tv interviews of the contestants, a poor girl raised up and chosen for a competition she doesn’t want to be in) and The Bachelor television show (I.e. 35 girls competing for one man). The main characters have a bit of growth, but it takes forever to get there and there’s so much other stuff going on that it gets missed sometimes. Too much focus on the details and daily routines, rather than actually moving the plot forward. The main plot point isn’t even resolved at the end - and not even in a cliffhanger way, it just kind of stops mid-process. It’s weird. I might still finish the series just to say I did, but it’s definitely not an exciting book that makes me want more. However, If I were reading this book as a younger teen, instead of the adult I am, I probably would have really enjoyed it - which is why I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 2.

It might have been an easy read, but it was definitely worth reading. As a fan of a dystopian love triangle, I was a big fan of this book. It has compelling characters and a decently interesting storyline. The ending of this book was a little rushed but I’m definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

In the beginning, I thought it was fine. I didn’t hate it, and until midway I was planning on giving it 3 stars. However, it just became so boring, and I couldn’t find anything to latch onto. Not to mention the main character threatened to drive me insane. She became so self centered and such a standard “I’m not like other girls” cliché that it made me want to throw the book. Not to mention the fact that she gets angry at Maxon for telling her to stop pushing him around, which she totally deserved, and then her immediate reaction is to rebound to her ex?
In conclusion; I found this book boring, and uninteresting, and the main character, and Aspen insufferable.
