at the beginning of the book after she got chosen to be in the selection there was a lot of talk about like “are u a virgin” “have you lost ur virginity” and that made me a little uncomfortable but otherwise this was a great book also I think that Kris Celeste needs to stop blaming other people for things she dose.

“No, I’m not choosing him or you. I’m choosing me.”
Hello I'm like super late to this series but well here we are. The Selection came out in Germany when I was 13 and I swear every single girl my age that was also into reading, was reading this series. And I have that awful tendency (even though I am actively trying to unlearn it these days) to, just out of principle, not interact with the things that are popular. And, to be perfectly honest, when I was between the ages of 13 and idk 16, or whenever the last book hit the shelves, i wasn't that big on romance. Like I was, but I wasn't going to admit that to anyone, especially not myself.
Anyways. So, long story short I never read this book and I never actually interacted with anything involving this series and I was going into reading this knowing exactly nothing about it, except for how a lot of people have a very passionate dislike for it.
Now, don't get tricked by my 4 stars, this isn't a good book. The world feels incredibly underdeveloped and very much early 2010's-ish and uhh...very white (put a pin in that

I loved this book so much. I’ve had a hard time finding books I like and this one is just such a good find. This is the first book that I have giggled and kicked my feet! At points in the book I found myself thinking “What is she doing” but she always made up for her mistakes. (Spoiler) In the book they talk about the relationship of Maxon and America and their love story in this book is to good. Also when America finds herself trying to choose between Aspen and Maxon is so suspenseful. Can’t wait to read the next book!
Re-read!
3 stars!
America Singer is a sixteen-year-old who lives in the country of Illea, a remaining part of the United States after World War III. And yes World War III! It is Dystopian!!! Illea is a weird monarchy that has a caste system ranging from One to Eight- One being very rich and high class and Eight being very poor. America is sent an invitation to The Selection where thirty-five girls are allowed to stay in the palace and compete to win Prince Maxon's heart. America is reluctant to take part in it. And the reason is simple: Her family and her secret lover Aspen. Things start getting unsettling there.
I loved how the plot was fast-paced with no-nonsense and the world-building is very easy to understand with little to no brain power. It feels like Bridgerton meeting Hunger Games-esque.Loved chemistry and banter between Maxon and America but she was kinda annoying and irritating at times.
Overall a good interesting book with abrupt ending.
