This was only 113 pages but it felt like 11,113… The writing was so discombobulating that reading one sentence felt like trying to untangle your wired earphones in the dark or walking through a maze blindfolded. I was deeply, and i mean DEEEEEEPLY, enraged throughout the whole book that I couldnt even properly feel for the character and her hardships. It all felt very pretentious… like the authors main goal was to cram as much words as they could in a SENTENCE, not paragraph.

For example
“I know it's not a question of beauty, though, but of something else, for example, yes, something else mind, for example. What I want to seem I do seem, beautiful too if that's what people want me to be. Beautiful or pretty, pretty for the family for example, for the family no more than that. I can become anything anyone wants me to be”
LIKE WHAT ARE WE SAYINGGGGG. Omfg I know my reading comprehension is low but this actually PMO girl bye

MARGUERITE DURAS!!!!! me and bestie are onto you

Duras' most popular work is a product of her own affair with an older man against the humid backdrop of Vietnam, formerly known as French Indochina. It is at the end of the European colonial/imperialist era. Both unnamed lovers are outsiders, the Others. The narrator's encounters with her older lover shape her relationship with Vietnam and with her writing.

Although it is rather short, this is arguably one of my favorite books and amongst some of the best I've ever read in terms of honest emotional appeal
