Anne is such a delightful and charming character. She's talkative, imaginative, lovable, vain and bad tempered (when provoked), but her personality and way of seeing the world is unique. She's childlike, but also wise beyond her years. I love her character growth. No matter how much she evolves, she's still Anne with an 'e'.

The rest of the characters are fantastic and they cannot escape Anne's charm, no matter how hard they try. Marilla might seem stern and strict, but she has an interesting sense of humour. Matthew is Anne's biggest supporter.
SpoilerOh why did he have to die?!
Mrs. Rachel Lynde is the epitome of cosy island, nosy neighbour vibes. There's also Anne's friends, frenemies, acquaintances and rivals.

This is a character driven and slice of life story with low to no risks and well-intended mistakes which are easily resolved. There's no doubt about how the story is going to go, but I loved witnessing Avonlea through Anne's eyes.

Comforting, heartwarming and beautifully written. Anne is one of those characters who sees beauty in the mundane and that's the best way to describe Anne of Green Gables: ordinary and enchanting.

This is one of my favourite books that I return to time and again. There is something joyful within the story - a love letter to the world and all its simple pleasures. Every read, something new stands out to me from the pages. Some new nugget of wisdom needed in the moment to carry with me along the way.

I always avoided reading this book a child, and I’m so mad at myself for it. Anne is so loveable and such a kindred spirit. I wish I could have had her to relate to when I was younger. I cried reading this.

Montgomery's optimism is contagious and this one is always going to be close to my heart. That said I also know that Anne is the sort of character is a double dose of personality. She drives me to roll my eyes at times, but I was very much that person as a kid. (Possibly as an adult, depends on who you ask). Your ability to enjoy this one is inversely related to your ability to recognize yourself in Anna, Marilla and the locals of Avonlea. I knew most of this story when I read it the first time, so my ability to enjoy it was also diluted by that.

Anne is so gay for Diana.

Also how they managed to stretch one book into three seasons of a tv show i will never understand
