When the phrase “sexy man beast” was used I knew that I’d made a horrible mistake.

I am not one to read romance novels or anything like that. I usually like to read crime, thriller, and dark twisty books. However, this book got me hooked. This is my first book by Lucy Score and it as all thanks to Book Tok and I can say this will not be my last.

I thought it was funny because she writes about a Grumpy Viking named Knox Morgan who encounters Naomi Witt a "Goody two shoes" according to her twin sister, which automatically reminded me of my husband and I. My husband happens to be a Viking and he happens to always be grumpy as well which made me laugh the whole time I was reading. I felt like I was reading about my husband. Although, I am def. not a goody two shoes but I am not a disaster like Tina. Just normal lol. Anyways this book has some spicy scenes way better than 50 Shades.

Knox starts off by saying that Naomi is not his type and she is a runaway bride which wants nothing to do with men but some how that lights a fire between the two of them. People always want what they cannot have. I love the banter between Knox and Nash and I cannot forget Lucian aka Lucy. The way Lucy Scores describes these three men makes me want a foursome with all three of them. LMAO.

Here is an example of when they both finally give in, "I was no longer capable of forming words. I was no longer capable of drawing in a breath. All I could do was cup his erection through his boxer briefs and hang on for dear life. When his lips closed over my nipple and he started to suck, the back of my head hit the fridge. Those deep, decadent pulls echoed all over my body and I had a feeling he knew it. He was too busy looking pained to be amused. I couldn't blame him after I got my first good look at his erection. It was arousing, intimidating. A thick, purple headed leader in the world of erect penises. I got a little dizzy when Knox fisted it."

Second steamy example, "I fucked her with my fingers, starting slow and building speed. I held her gaze with an obsessive desire to watch the orgasm I gave her ruin her. But I needed something more. I needed to taste her. She whimpered when I dropped to my knees. The whimper became a low moan when I pressed my mouth between her legs. "Ride my hand, Naomi. Ride it while I make you come. Remember who you are. What you deserve." Knox believes that he is not good enough for Naomi ut he cannot get enough of her. Which only confuses things for Naomi and it gives her hope that the man can change and that it won't just be "fast, dirty, and casual" like he tells her in the beginning.

The line that killed me and made me think that Knox was a big idiot, "I couldn't stop myself. Just like I couldn't stop myself from pushing us both to the mattress, my arms wrapped tight around her chest, holding her to me. I was still inside her as I plotted how I was going to end it all." Let's just say that it took Knox almost loosing Naomi and Waylay to get his head out of his ass and admit that he could not live without them.

Five Stars I recommend and I cannot wait to read Nash story in Things we hide from the light.

In the minority here but honestly this book just wasn't for me...
I had high hopes for this one but it was full of cliches, an alpha male full of toxicity that I couldn't stand and the writing style was ugh...
Some of the sex scenes I won't easily get over and not in a good way.
Loved the secondary characters but I'm not sure i will find the will to resume this series

I don’t normally give 5 stars to romance books (despite them being my favorite genre) because there’s always a sort of cheesiness and lack of plot, but this book had neither of those issues! I wasn’t sure about the random evil twin and niece plot going in, but Lucy Score did a really good job at balancing romance with that plot line. The gradual build of their relationship was nice. Overall a really really good romance. Sad to be done, but looking forward to the other 2 in the series!

I would've rated this much higher if the main characters were in their 20s/early 30s but they're in their late 30s/40s and their actions don't reflect that. This was my first small town romance and while it was fun at certain parts, it wasn't IT for me. Main character Naomi was pretty likable but I didn't care for the love interest Knox. As I got towards the end, I thought I'd finish the book and rate it a 3 or even 3.25 stars but then the epilogue and bonus epilogue solidified the 2.5 stars. Neither felt necessary (espically considering there are two more books that feature Knox's brother and best friend). I did read the first chapter of Things We Hide from the Light (book 2) and I feel like I might enjoy that one more as Nash seemed less insufferable than Knox. Overall not a bad read, it just wasn't for me.
