I enjoyed this book, but at times it just seemed too long.

Excellent book! I am very glad it was recommended to me by a friend. Demille is a great author that has created a likable character in John Corey. I just finished a series by Charlie Huston and this character is very similar and enjoyable. I have a new series to read!!!

Parts of Plum Island were excellent, and some parts were so-so. But the overarching issue with this book was the fact the MC is a total !@#$!#@head. I can't think of a single redeeming quality, and I'm glad he blames himself because he did cause bad things to happen.
The writing was adequate, and the stories behind the Plum Island research facility and the history of the area were fascinating and made for a great story. The MC really did drag this down for me, and it almost feels like a missed opportunity with this novel. Oh well, can't win 'em all. Also, please let's don't pretend that Budweiser is actually beer.

The first time I read a book by Nelson DeMille, I was charmed by the narrator's wise-ass dialogue. After a few books, it grew stale, though, and it had been years since I'd picked up another. This time I found it so annoying that I almost gave up. But the plot was good and different. So if a constant smart mouth doesn't bother you, I can recommend this book, and that's why I gave it three stars. I hope this experience stays with me for a few years, though, so that I stay away from this author.

I had a hard time with this story because I found the main character John Corey to be unlikeable. The plot itself was fun and decently paced but the romance was underdeveloped and unfocused.
