5/5 - So much angst and action

God I love this book so much. No complaints, except that I wish there were more of Severin and Laila pretending to be together and sleeping in the bed together. God, the angst with them. I can't. It took so long for them to finally be together, thank god they were finally together. And god, the ending when she smashed that recording device that he planted for her hoping she sees it. God. Oh, and I was torn between loving Severin and completely hating him in this book. I understood his pain, and I loved the angst with him and Laila, but god he was so... lowkey rude to her. Like, not even bothering to defend her from Eva, letting Eva touch him, etc. I mean, the disrespect! He's supposed to pretend he's with Laila but it really didn't seem like it. Ugh and that one scene where he didn't give her his jacket and Delphine basically called him out. UGH. But finally, they got to be together before the end.

I seriously can't wait for the next book. I may have to reread this series before September.

Man I love this series!! Will read the next one soonish!! I thought overall it was a really good sequel and think it leaves off in a good way for the next book! Thank goodness we got some break in the tension between some of these characters

mochte die charaktere richtig gerne! der plot war ein bisschen zu vorhersehbar aber ich hatte trotzdem eine gute zeit!

This was so good!! I read the first one last year and had to find a summary because I remembered absolutely nothing lol. Roshani Chokshi is so good at weaving a world within our own. The magic is so full of life and the twists were so interesting. I’m sad to find out who the doctor was because I actually liked that character but it was a good twist.

Also Severin the diamond necklace??? Jeez man a little harsh.

The plot is still interesting but idk, I can’t really get over how immature they all are.  I know they’re all 20 or younger, and I know this is rich criticism for a fantasy series, but it just seems pretty unrealistic?  Like, I think out of the main cast everyone except Enrique is younger than me, and I just turned 20 last month.  And yet Séverin and Laila are world-famous… ok.  Still reading the third book because I am gripped enough to need to know how this all gets resolved.  To be fair, after all, I finished this one in a matter of hours.

I feel like I should dislike Laila and Séverin for being so obtuse with each other; and especially Séverin for distancing himself from the rest of the team.

Otherwise, the plot of this book picks up not too long after the end of The Gilded Wolves. The ending of that book has had its impact on the group from l'Eden, leaving them fragmented and alone. The adventure of tracking down the Sacred Lyrics does bring them together again, and there is a delightful glimpse of the team and family they used to be.
SpoilerUntil it's all dashed by the ending, which leaves them broken apart and betrayed.
(Which is partially due to the lack of communication between Séverin and Laila, and why I feel so conflicted about that lack, even though it isn't outside of their established characters.)

A very middle of the road second installment, whose strength lies in the characters and their relationships rather than in the plot. And in pointing out the imperialism, colonialism and theft of countries and peoples from outside of Europe.

It took a long time to pick up this book after 'The Gilded Wolves', which wasn't bad, but just didn't work for me- and that was disappointing considering how much I'd been looking forward to reading it.
'The Silvered Serpents' however, was quite enjoyable. Maybe it was lowered expectations, maybe it was that a lot of the characters and world building were already in place, but something clicked in this one that didn't for the first.
