I read the first book in the series and I didn’t love the writing or the plot, but decided to try out the next book because I quite liked the characters. But I realized almost immediately when starting this second installment that this series just isn’t for me.

This series is so fun and probably one of my favourite cast of characters. The audiobook is narrated superbly in my opinion so would also recommend the audio format! The diverse range of characters and the wide range of mythologies and histories incorporated is so entertaining. I think it should definitely be as renowned as [b:Six of Crows|23437156|Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)|Leigh Bardugo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1651710803l/23437156._SY75_.jpg|42077459].

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book.

I had a few reservations after reading the first in the series, the Gilded Wolves. The mythology was dense and complicated, but I was completely won over by the characters. The second book expands on this and the character growth is phenomenal.

The stakes have been raised. The group moves from the industrial streets of Paris to the snowy tundra of Russia. The scenery is majestic and the characters rise to the occasion. Each gains a further appreciation of their strengths. They rush toward finding the book that will save Laila's life and grant Severin's wishes. I loved the addition of the addictive blood magic and how it could be used to help or hinder the troop.

My favorite character remains Hypnos and his stylish audacity, serving as a mask to hide his need to belong. He remains hilariously captivating. Zofia is definitely my second favorite. Her heroic charge to save her friends is the best scene of the book.

And that ending!!! This book won't be published until September of this year. Does this mean I have to wait one to two years to figure out WTF?!?! Stupid cliffhangers!! (This is not to say the book didn't have a satisfying ending. But I really need book three. Stat.)

Dare I say this was basically a 5 star read? If I had not found some of the reveals in this to be a little predictable, it would have been. I was captivated by this instalment and I never wanted to put it down. The development of the characters wants and needs and how they saw themselves in comparison to one another? The way they all love each other and want to protect each other? “I wish my love was more beautiful.”>??????? bye

*I received an ARC of this book from Goodreads for an honest review*

I am not okay. This book put me on this roller coaster ride of emotions. In the first book, I loved the dynamic of the group of friends. After a certain death, it just throws the entire group off and it's soooo painful to watch each character learn how to deal with the death in their own way. Almost like, the group didn't have time to grieve and now they're on another treasure hunt. And Severin. Poor Severin. I'll just say it was a love hate relationship with Severin...but ultimately I love how all he wants to do is save his friends, no matter the cost. This book is just betrayals, revenge, and more betrayals. It was such an amazing book and I highly recommend anyone to read it.

Also LOVE how diverse the cast is and putting the issues of diversity at the fore front. I cannot wait until the final book!

An entertaining addition to the series!

The idea, and complexity of the magic system is really entertaining, I find myself wanting to know!

Our mmc is infuriating, really hoping they bring his story ark full circle in the last book. I truly don’t understand why he couldn’t just explain to the whole group his idea to save them all, sort of feels like the author did it just for angst.

As with the first book, love/love to hate all the different characters, but Zofia has an extra special place in my heart!!

Some of the reveals surprised me and some I saw from a while away, but it was a good continuation in the series.

I think I’ll jump right into the last book, excited to see how Roshani Chokshi ties up this vast world in only three books.

Ps one of my favorite things about this trilogy is the complexity of the heists, and how they walk you through unraveling all these mysteries I find truly
fascinating. Plus they bring in a little bit of history, so fun!
