This book took my heart in its hand and just kept squeezing until everything hurt. Then, the book ended and of course there's a major cliffhanger and of course book three is a long way out since book two just came out. So I'll just be in pain for a while until it comes out, no biggie.

Honestly though this was a great book. I adore the writing and the characters. The plot is great are there are some fun twists throughout the story that kept me on the edge of my seat. But oh, the characters. I love these characters so much and they really came to life in this book. I felt their joy, their anger, and their pain so clearly.

I'm so excited (and also so scared) for the next book to come out!

Ugh! So good! I just find Choskhi's writing to be so beautiful and flowing. She has such a way with descriptors, tone, characterization, and dialogue. I want to pick up her other books just because the reading experience is so pleasant.

I'm so excited for the next in this series! A bit of a cliffhanger ending but nothing overly outrageous. Just a lot of anticipation to see how everything is going to wrap up.

after the gilded wolves, I thought that I had experienced the most intense final chapters. this book outdid the first! my heart. I am losing it. I am LOSING it.

the narrators deserve awards for this. so many awards! the writing is lovely and dark. this one is a bit more disturbing, the story gets darker and spookier. but it’s a great story.

Ok, so we have the new cover, so this applied to me FINALLY WRITING THIS REVIEW AND FANGIRLING LIKE CRAZY! Holy wow! HOLY MARSHMALLOWS what a sequel this was! With mysteries and heists and the gang back together and even more mysteries!

First I have to say how much I loved the way Roshani presented through her story an abstract depiction of western colonialism, including the system of ‘forging’ (magic) that rich families can wield, which is also steeped in philosophical and mythological references as also the idea of how someone can become a "god".

Now keep in mind that after the events of the first book everyone was scattered and Severin did that to Laila and already there is tension between everyone even from the beginning. Not to mention that their search takes them into the Russian steppes where myth is woven into nature and magic overflows.

I loved the characters even more. Severin and Laila being my top couple while at the same time my heart ached with the misunderstandings, the treachery and THAT CLIFFHANGER ENDING! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR 2021?!

This was a spectacular sequel worthy following in the steps of the first one and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
