Felt a bit slower than the first one, and less puzzling with a more complicated narrative and difficult characters with complex backstories and intertwined history. Still a fantastic concept and well executed... bring on book 3!
the angst everything hurt (so good), excuse me but roshani chokshi writing is the most beautiful thing ever- anyway i’m out of here this bk i just, i need to lay down a bit and bk 3 ofc bk 3 would be real nice

This. This book is what the Six of Crows duology wishes it could have accomplished with its attempt at the Found Family trope. This is what the entire Throne of Glass series wishes it could have done with a main character who fits the chess master/Magnificent Bastard archetypes. I put off reading this for far too long, but it was so nice to return to these characters and this writing. I need to not do the same with the third book (which I have, and I need to also read.) I can't say enough good about this.

okay so where do i even start? this book was just wonderfully heartbreaking. i love all these characters so much and i admire the love they have for each other. this book had so many plot twists that kept making my jaw drop. last 50 pages had me being happy and then sad every few pages and i swear this book is becoming my new favorite. the plot was just so damn amazing, everyone should read it
This took a while for me to read. While Roshani Chokshi weaves in many clever historical facts to slowly reveal the mystery at the end of the book and utilizes a plethora of metaphors to connect with readers, mostly everything else falls flat.
There are a few fantastic scenes (like Zofia holding a fLAMING SWORD????? HELLO????), but I'm wondering if maybe this series is not for me.

Really interested plot and good twists. I love the flipping perspectives in this book.
