"As incredible as it seemed, time kept moving forward for the rest of the world. The rest of the world wasn't waiting."

"There is not always a good guy. Nor is there always a bad one. Most people are somewhere in between."

I read this with my Year 7s and it breaks my heart every time. Obviously it’s not for my age group but it’s so lovely for them to read and I enjoy it every time.

I am heartbroken. This was the saddest book I've ever read to date and yet the most reflective. I've learned a lot about death and the confusing feelings surrounding it and how we need to learn to accept those feelings because human beings are anything from perfect. I'm so overwhelmed. I know I usually have a lot to say after I read books but I'm simply speechless. I think that's why it's getting a 5/5. This was such an important read and I recommend it to anyone.

For the first time in a review, I don't know where to start... This book is a masterpiece! I have never cried so much and felt grief so deeply through a book. It was an incredible reading experience. The beautiful illustrations are insane. The cover, story and writing harmonise and are perfect in my eyes. In addition, this book is one of the rare cases where I have seen the film before the book and the printed work has not disappointed me - quite the opposite. The film is highly recommended; I especially like the portrayal of the monster, and the book brings the emotions even more to the point. At the beginning, the story starts a bit distant and you have to read a few pages to get involved with the characters and understand the depth in my opinion. Please don't give up on the book after 20 pages, because the best is yet to come. The book is full of metaphors and real-life stories. I will certainly read it again!❤️‍🩹
