I never read these as a kid, but it's come up in conversation recently so I thought I'd give it a go. I listened to the audiobook version read by Stephen Fry so that was a treat. Solid kid's story, but nothing incredibly captivating to me or amazing life lesson. I probably wouldn't buy it for my kids, but I'd read it to them if they were gifted the books. (If they ever exist.)
Thoroughly enjoyed this. It took me right back to reading this as a child (which wasn't THAT long ago). With the exception of a few old-fashioned phrases it really does stand the test of time. Paddington is as adorable as I remembered and I found the shenanigans he got himself into quite fun. Sure, it's simple and cute but that's the charm!
Such a delightful book. My daughter enjoyed it, too.

I was first introduced to Paddington Bear when I was a kid. We had a big illustrated book of Paddington stories that were sometimes read to us (me and my sister) at bedtime.
When I saw a set of 15 Paddington books on sale at one of my favorite book sites, I snapped it up! And I’m glad I did. I read this first one over the past 2 days, and it’s been a very good stress buster/relaxing read. Paddington is fun, and funny, and lighthearted, and gets in so much trouble without intending to do so at all. I love him.
