I never realized it was a comedy of manners. It makes sense that it was not originally written for children.
++What a cute and wholesome story.
++The shennigans that Paddington gets up to are wonderful and creative with an ordinary flair.
-Only minor complaint is that it seems to abruptly end.
+But there is more Paddington. And I may now be inclined to indulge once more.

A charming and fun read aloud, it had my kids (8 and 6) laughing out loud at times. My 8 year old had tried reading it on her own and wasn't very interested, but really enjoyed me reading it to her.
Once we got into it, it was a pretty fun read aloud for me. It is a children's book that doesn't really have an overarching plotline, but each chapter is a short story about the main character. Those aren't my favorites, but my kids always end up loving them

The first book in the Paddington series and what a great fun read it was, Paddington is an endearing character, and he does get up to a lot of mischief in his really mis-adventures, a great read, I'll have to look out for book two now.
As a kid I probably would’ve enjoyed Paddington’s antics, but as an adult I couldn’t stop thinking about how expensive and stressful it must be to constantly clean up his messes.
I loved the narration in this story, letting us fill in characters' motivations where it's easy to connect the dots, and dropping in insightful gems like this one:
Mr. Brown sighed. He knew when he was beaten. It wasn’t that he didn’t like the idea of keeping Paddington. Secretly he was just as keen as anyone. But as head of the Brown household, he felt he ought to consider the matter from every angle.
I never read Paddington as a kid, so this was a treat. It’s such a silky premise but so we’ll written it’s almost believable. Paddington’s hijinks kept me (and my kids) laughing.
