I loved this so much. Its a total classic. It was so cute and funny. Paddington is the best little bear :].

This was quite an accomplishment for my 5 year old boy. His first chapter book without pics on every page. To be honest, I think I enjoyed it more than my son. There are a lot of Britishisms, which is not a problem if you are British and/or are well read in British literature. A 5 year old American boy, not so much. But nevertheless I think he was proud of his accomplishment!

Loved listening to my husband read this to our daughter

Big fan of the Paddington films so I decided to take a dive into the first book and it's fine. Pretty episodic and slice of life. It's got some charming moments but I think Paddington works much better in a visual medium. It's hard to convey cuteness over text

At Paddington station, Mr. and Mrs. Brown stumble across a Peruvian bear (who talks) and they take him home to their two children, and he becomes one of the family. The story exists in a kind of alternate universe where everything is the same except that nobody thinks a talking bear is unusual.

Besides making me hungry for marmalade, the story is charming and well written — NOT written down to a child's reading level. There's a satisfying predictability to each chapter. The unwitting Paddington gets into some type of trouble (through no fault of his own) but it all turns out OK in the end. The characters are distinctive and lovable.

Good for any child over the age of 4 or 5. (Also great for adults who just want to read a sweet, simple story that will make them smile.)

We listened to this book on our road trip. The adults all got bored of it and started talking. My 5 year old wouldn't let us turn it off though. He listened to all of it and very much enjoyed it. (Apr 2010)

* Started this with Jane & Isaac, but after 35 pages they told me they weren't really loving it, so we gave it up. I think it'd be better for younger kids. (Nov 2019)

PADDINGTON.

How could one not love Paddington? I grew up with Paddington Bear, though I have very little recollection of the actual stories. But my best friend gave me the book of stories on my birthday just after living in London and yep. I remembered why I loved these stories so much.
