When I read this shortly after it came out in the early 90s, I had never read anything by either author, although I'd heard about Discworld and Sandman. Re-reading it thirty years later, I remembered almost nothing about it other than the two main characters, but I knew that I had loved this witty story of an angel and a demon who have one job-- keep track of the child anti-Christ until it's time for armageddon-- and they've manage to flub it up. Yes, that's right, they've lost the anti-Christ, and the chosen day is less than a week away. It's really a fun story, and I think I enjoyed it even more in 2022 than I did the first time. Unfortunately, there are some ways that it has not aged well-- for example, there are some Asian stereotypes that are in no way essential to the plot, but still jump out as something that neither author would probably write today (certainly not Sir Terry, who died in 2015). But if you can overlook that, highly recommended.

DNF-ed audiobook at about 40%. This has been on my list forever as an "I should have read this by now" title, but I'm more than 5 hours into the audiobook and I'm just not invested in it, and finishing it for the sake of finishing it feels like a chore. CW that the minor plot point where Sable's diet plan is basically to get humans to starve themselves to death, or eat a ton of fast food and get fat and die of malnutrition, and it has not aged well at all. (I have loved the TV adaptation, though.)

This was a really fun, creative story that took the apocalypse/antichrist plot in a new and interesting way. The format made it a touch hard to read at times - there’s really no chapters, just days and then jumping section in between - so it was a little hard to find a good stopping point some times. Haven’t seen the TV show yet, but imagine I’ll probably enjoy it even more because I can see the story working even better as something watchable. Plus, David Tennant. I’d probably recommend this book to fans of Neil Gaiman or folks looking for a fun, light mythology type of read, but even thought I enjoyed it - hence the high rating - I’m not sure it quite lives up to the hype.

DNF around page 90. Just didn’t hold my interest, didn’t get the humor. Just boring. Sticking with just Neil Gaiman books going forward
