I love, love Marian Keyes. I’ll read anything she writes, Rachel’s Holiday is an incredible book and Again, Rachel was a fabulous sequel.
But Anybody Out There wasn’t one of my favourites and I shouldn’t really be surprised that My Favourite Mistake also fell a little flat for me. My reasoning for both? They were both just way too long and drawn out. The story of both could have been shortened a lot and been a lot more engaging without losing the story.
That said, I still enjoyed the book and being in the Walsh universe. I love Keyes chatty writing style and I’d still pre-order another of her books in a heartbeat! Can’t win em all after all!
I also listened to this on audio book and listening to Marian’s soothing tones was a delight which brings this up a little bit in star rating for me.
I've read a lot of books by Marian Keyes in the past, and I enjoyed all of them. But "My Favorite Mistake" was hard for me to get into and hard for me to keep interested in. I didn't like the way the story jumped back and forth in time, and the series of events were very confusing. It might be that I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to enjoy this book. However, I WILL read more books by this author in the future. But this one just didn't do it for me.
Thank you to Net Galley and to the publisher for an ARC of this novel. My opinion is my own.

Ms. Keyes writes so beautifully about characters so real and faceted. This book was no different and a joy to read.
Couldn't finish it. Tried hard to but the writing is flat and unnecessarily wordy. There's no conflict driving the story forward. There's not enough character development for us to really love the character and read it for her. I like that she's in her forties and perimenopausal and child free, but dang there's nothing relational about her that the reader can connect to. Too bad because I loved Again, Rachel.
This was mostly my fault. I listened to this for way to long and the story felt extremely dragged out as a result.
I normally listen to audio books while walking or commuting but since I landed in Portugal I have not been able to concentrate on audio books while all sorts of other things to see, do and eat.
I still love Marian Keys and appreciate the fact that the sisters of the Walsh family are my age now (can someone say HRT?) but there were way too many mentions of Joey and how gorgeous he was. It got really boring for me and the dynamic between Anna and Joey didn’t feel authentic to start with.
