This is one of the books that you are able to sail through in one sitting. It is sweet, pure and practically whimsical. The storyline of how a teen movie star falls in love with a small town girl could pass off as a cliche, but there is a charm to the story as Graham Larkin is really just another caring, compassionate and conflicted young man. I liked how the story makes Ellie determined yet vulnerable. She is also fiercely independent and levelheaded, but she shows her soft side and finds solace in Graham. I would not call the story remarkable, but it is a pleasant read anyway!
I LOVED this book! It was so adorable and the characters were amazing. I didn't even have a favorite character because I loved them all. I definitely recommend this book.
I enjoyed this book--a sweet romance with a very Sarah Dessen feel to it.
at the beginning the switch from Graham to Ellie's third person P.O.V. was confusing but as it went on, it got better.
Ellie's mom and her paranoia about Ellie's father really bugged me and how she made Ellie keep it a secret and it was just really stupid and bugged me.
Quinn, Ellie's best friend, bugged me too her pettiness and jealously and how she acted after Ellie started seeing Graham just really irked me. she so was a terrible friend.

Okay, so this was seriously a perfect summer read! I love Graham and Ellie's story, and wish there was more to read! I especially loved that this book included email messages between the characters in addition to just normal chapters. It adds a whole new level of personality to the characters. Also, don't we all dream about falling in love with a movie star?!

This book is a cheesy love story that to me, felt very forced. The plot is fairly formulaic and predictable and the characters don't have a lot of depth to them. The story is still pretty cute but not as engaging and entertaining as I would have liked. I think this story would have been much more enjoyable if I was much much younger.
I was in need of some cute, romantic summer read when I stumbled upon this one. And well it was great in some aspects, it was completely lacking in others.
Ella O'Neil is a typical girl in a small town. Up until she gets an anonymous e-mail by accident. She and the mysterious stranger become friends over time. But what will happen when she confronts the real person she has been talking to? Will it be as easy as the e-mails they have been exchanging?
I am always a great fan of books about celebrity lives. It makes me think that they are not that different from us, not at all. And this book was just like that. Getting to know Graham was really nice and the spotlight on his life from the paparazzi felt real and his problems felt real, too. Elle is an insecure girl without a male figure in her life. I understood her insecurities and connected with her.
The romance is slow-moving, but then speeds them. And it's really great. Jennifer E. Smith knows exactly how to express how teenagers feel. There were a couple of aspects that irked me. Sometimes, the plot was too slow. I got bored and i had to go out of my way to read another more interesting book then get back to this one when I was in mood. I like to be in mood for a book ALL the time, so I guess that's why this bothered me that much.
The things Graham did were a little bit too unbelievable. Actually, I dare say, most of this book was unbelievable in real life. This book is like a fairy tale. Every girl's dream. Every girl dreams of a movie star falling in love with her and spending his life with her. So, the concept was not entirely unique and it was unbelievable. More fantasy than contemporary.
This is more of a light, sweet contemporary read that would be great to read on a vacation or on the beach. It's lovely and cute, a definitely amazing summer read!

This Is What Happy Looks Like is just what I needed. After finding myself in the beginnings of a reading slump due to not enjoying the book I was reading, I decided to pick up something more lighthearted, a contemporary and so I picked up TIWHLL.
The characters were perfect for the story and each had a different personality which made for a great story. I loved the way Ellie and Graham's relationship played out. I adored Quinn - even when she was angry with Ellie - and her loving personality. Graham was the perfect kind of guy for Ellie, even though she pushed him away he (eventually) kept persisting because he knew it was the right thing to do.
The plot was enjoyable and although not being 'fast' paced, it definitely wasn't too slow. I loved reading about Henley and I loved the way Jennifer E.Smith described the town, I had a perfect, clear picture in my head. Overall, I loved This Is What Happy Looks Like and I can't wait to read more of Jennifer's writing!
