I can't even. This book was just the book I needed. My heart is doing ALL THE FEELS.

Very cute! I think I like Love at First Sight better, maybe because of the characters? I don't really know, though. Yup! I don't have ton to say.
Overall: a quick read, worth the time if you are looking for a fun romance

This is such a cute little book. It's not very realistic, with clichés and uncanny coincidences; it dances between two POV and is pretty fanfiction-esque. But it's a really sweet story.
3/5 because I wouldn't say that it was in any way special or surprising or different- but it was a heart warmer, I guess.
Just your average story about the average girl who is different to the rest of the world and not blinded by the famous side of a misunderstood famous celebrity and their battle against 3 photographers this one time and bad publicity- all the while reinforcing that 'parents are important' and stuff. Yeah, 3 stars will do it.

I only made it 195 pages into this book before I finally called it quits. I always try to force myself through at least 100 pages of a book before I give up on it, so I made it father through This is What Happy Looks Like than I actually had to.
I put this book down mainly because it was incredibly boring. Absolutely nothing was happening and I was 48% into the book. It was so dull that I was looking for anything to do other than read, and that is so unlike me. Seriously, there was no plot other than Graham loves Ellie even though they met just a day ago and only "know" each other through emailing. Other than that, there is no plot to be found.
Also, the characters in this book were annoying and flat. I didn't feel like I knew them, and I found Ellie to be annoying and quite whiny and selfish. I also didn't find Graham appealing, and as the love interest, he fell short. Readers are supposed to fall for the love interest just as much as the characters, and I wasn't falling for Graham one bit. I also didn't believe the whole "Graham being a heartthrob movie star" bit either, simply because he was boring and seemed to act cold to his fans, though we're told otherwise.
Lastly, I found the writing to be irritating, which is a problem I had with Smith's other novel The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. She uses just as many similes as Cassandra Clare and her prose fell short. I just didn't enjoy it.
Based on the 195 pages I managed to get through of This is What Happy Looks Like, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Perhaps it gets better in the end, but the beginning and chunk of middle I read didn't make me care enough to find out. 1 star.

I was immediately drawn into this story. Graham was a hit for me throughout. I felt bad for him, even though he was a big-time movie star, he seemed to lead a very solitary life.
At first I was a bit confused as to why they continued to emailing each other. Only because I found myself wondering what teenagers still use email as a form of communication when things like text and IM exist. Sure, adults emailing is believable but teenagers, not likely. But once I set that aside, I truly enjoyed their email exchange.
At times I would get annoyed with Ellie and her behavior, but then at others I felt bad for her as well. The secret that her mother was making her keep was entirely wrong on her mother's part. That is such a heavy burden to lay on a child at an early age.
I did feel that the ending was a letdown. It provided no closure and was rather abrupt. I would have liked to see some of the loose ends tied up, not only with Ellie and Graham's relationship, but the relationship of Ellie and her dad. But other than that, it was a great, light read.

this book was cute but didn't contain all the fluff I needed in my life
I read this by a lake on a lovely summer afternoon and it was perfect for that. Light, fun, and I never wanted to punch the female protagonist.
