Wow! So well researched, so smart and told with her signature razor sharp wit. I expect the audience will be almost exclusively female which is really a great shame. I will most certainly be handing this one down to my daughters.

DID NOT FINISH: 22%

It was the only non-fiction book I had tired to read. It felt like I was reading a really long millennial Insta rant. Some points were understandable, but the waffling became too much.

The well researched, true story of how Western Civilisation managed to convince girls & women that marriage is something to strive for, only for it to be one of the most pointless and submissive choices that we can actually make for ourselves in our lifetime. As a married mother of two, this hit home.

A lot interesting history sums up the case against marriage - and the epilogue was by far the best. This book centres Ford's experiences and those of her friends and Instagram crowd. So you might not relate to way she provides retorts from opponents to her views, or the hyperbolic extremes her examples get to. I wished those examples and manifestations had more nuanced than dickboy crybaby. I feel like there were most nuanced in the post-marriage servitude and post-baby sex discussions. We mainly only hear about western and white feminist critiques - but again this is Clem's perspective. A bit abrasive in some way, but I enjoyed it because I already agreed with the message, and this strengthened my determination to stay unmarried.

"Marriage needs to be destroyed because it's the linchpin in the maintenance of the patriarchal family unit. And the patriarchal family unit needs to be destroyed because it is overwhelmingly hurting women. I don't think men, for the most part, have proven that they deserve women's care and love. Men have built their legacy in the world by stealing everything they can from us - our labour, our resources, our bodies and our very lives - and nothing has changed in the prison of marriage except the furniture." - Clementine Ford

That was fucking awesome!  I both read and listened to this and as the book goes on Clementine gets angrier and angrier and so did I.
“Princess for a day? No thankyou.
Queen, commander and general in charge of my life for the rest of all time!
I Fucking do “

Lots of research went into this book and huge amounts of knowledge and common sense.  I will never marry so she was preaching to the converted but I hope more women (and men but who am I kidding)  read this and understand this absolute sermon of a book. GOLD !

I genuinely enjoyed most of this book but I could not get past the lack of footnotes or a bibliography.

DNF - enjoyed her previous books but not this one sadly. I hated the ranty writing style and lack of references. Apparently it gets better towards the end but I just couldn't make myself keep reading.
