i didn't feel a single thing reading this but at least it was better than reminders of him lmfao

"Hopeless" by Colleen Hoover is a gripping emotional rollercoaster that delves into love, loss, and unexpected revelations. The intricate plot, well-developed characters, and Hoover's compelling writing style create a poignant narrative that keeps you hooked until the last page. The exploration of deep themes and the unexpected twists make "Hopeless" a must-read for fans of contemporary romance with a touch of mystery.
Basically it's supposed to be a YA romance.
Let me tell you the only thing YA about this book is the fact that the main characters are 17 and 18 years old. Apart from that there's NOTHING really YA about it. It has swearing and a lot sex in it without it being inappropriate.
I LOVED this book. So much. I'm trying to wrap my mind around the fact that it's over.
It's about Sky who's 17 years old. She's been homeschooled by her adoptive mother until she decides to spend her senior year at a public school. She's having a hard time in school because her best friend, Six, isn't spending senior year with her in Texas, but in Italy. Also, Sky kind of has the reputation of a slut because she's made out with so many guys. But nobody, not even Sky herself know the reason why she never feels attracted to any of the guys she makes out with.
Until one day she meets Holder (that's his last name BTW) at the grocery store, and Sky develops feelings for him.
It sounds like a cheesy love story. It's not. The further I read, the more complicated and intense the story got. And the more I read, the more I fell in love with Holder as well. He's too good to be true, but he still has his flaws. He's no Edward Cullen who's more a parent than a boyfriend to Bella. Holder has a temper and a secret, and he and Sky were just meant to be together.
I seriously encourage you to pick this book up, I'm sure it won't disappoint you.
I'm giving this book a 5 out of 5 because everything was perfect. I loved the characters. I loved the unpredictable plot (although I knew what had happened to Sky when she was a little girl from the beginning).
I don't know if I've ever read a book that has made me laugh out loud and cry on the same page. It was a roller-coaster ride full of emotions. I don't have enough words to express how much this book impressed me.
THANK YOU COLLEEN HOOVER! (And thanks for the sleepless night last night, and keeping me from studying for my business law final tomorrow. Haha. It was worth it!)

This was an easy read but also a very very very hard read. My heart could not handle what happened to Sky/Hope at 6 years old. Or to Lesslie at 10 years old. Or to Karen at 13 years old. I knew there would be twists but wow. Especially the one with Hope's Dad, bloody hell takes on a new meaning. This book should definitely come with a trigger warning because it's a lot, but the beautiful part of it is Sky and Holder together
I'm aware of the negative reputation that CoHo has in the book reading world, however I am on a mission to review and reread my read shelf to make it more organised and this was first on my list.
The way the mystery came out was well paced and one of the main highlights for me. In my room at night in the dark Sky's bad dreams and some of her memories genuinely made my heart beat faster, not because they were scary but because I felt equally in the unknown of it all. The character interactions were good. I feel like I could use the word 'good' a lot, meaning it was an average read.
Sky
I liked her as a main character. She made some silly choices sometimes but once you read and see the situation she's going through it makes sense. I can see why some consider her to be slut shaming but imo it doesn't make her bad for stating her friend changes boys like she changes ice cream flavours. It's not negative it's just a fact, and she just isn't like that. My only real negatives for her is that she doesn't stand out. Nothing makes her memorable. (P.S. why do people keep making their female main characters run!? where did this come from? It feels like they are always doing track or distance running for fun)
Holder
As a male love interest he was okay, but I was waiting for him to be great. His start was very Edward Cullen, and once you read on it makes sense but as a reader and for Sky it is just plain weird. I loved how he also became friends with Breckin, sometimes the love interest is only with the main character and makes no effort to see her friends but Holder did. I appreciated he had emotions, he cried and he talked about his feelings.
Side characters
I loved Six I wanted more of Six but I understand the plot device that meant she wasn't physically around as much.
Breckin was fun, he was a really good friend and I liked how he made an effort with Holden. He could be considered a 'stereotypical gay best friend' but his sexuality only came up twice ish as part of Holden's history.
Sky's mother, Karen was well written. You understand her more later in the book. their relationship wasn't a 'lovey dovey' kind, sometimes it feels transactional which might be intentional.
Overall this book is a solid 3.5 imo. It was good enough to keep me engaged and although Holden isn't making my fave book bf list and Sky doesn't stand out that much, I didn't hate this book and I could see the right person being recommended it.
