Intense. Great book & well written as always by Colleen Hoover. She draws you in with her style of writing, characters & storyline. Must read.
I usually, for reasons unknown even to myself, steer clear from obvious romance novels. Not that I dislike the genre because that's just not true. Perhaps I prefer my romance wrapped in a story, not the romance itself to just be the essence and heart of the novel. Whatever is my issue, normally I wouldn't have read this book if it wasn't for a strong recommendation from a friend who knows me and my tastes as well as if they were hers. She wasn't wrong this time either.
I read this book in what sums up to be 8 hours. Not straight but I would have if I wasn't a mundane creature of needs such as sleep, at least from time to time. It gripped me from its first pages. I was unable to change my semi-comfortable position of reading while on my stomach so my back eventually started to hurt but even then I couldn't shift because this novel had me engrossed SO much.
I didn't anticipate such a turn of events. Judging from this book's very first sentences it seemed to me that would be a story of hearts painfully broken, of hurt and pain induced by an asshole who takes what he pleases and takes it by force if necessarily. Never had I been more wrong in my entire life and neither had I been more relieved to be wrong. You have no idea. It was a miraculous feeling, one which filled me with unspeakable joy when I realized it.
If you're reading this, dear potential reader, then I can assure you of only one thing: you will not regret picking it up. The writing is effortless and GOOD and that's something I come across rarer and rarer these days. It's a well weighed out combination of A+ writing skills and the author's ability to lift you up with her words. They make you L I V E through her story even if its events, it's content isn't necessarily anything you have come across in your own life. By the time I finished, I felt as if I shared the lives of both Sky and Holder. I would go up with them and back down if they struggled to lift themselves up again. It was a beautiful experience and part of me wishes it could be undone so I could go through it carte blanche again.
Thank you for making high school seniors interesting for me again fiction-wise, Mrs Hoover. I will carry them in the deepest depth of my heart for a very very long time. I also can't wait to lay my hands on the 2nd installment as the notion of being able to read Holder's thoughts now for a change is beyond exciting... not to mention that it's HOT too. ;)
